Lake Superior Consulting is currently seeking a Field Technician (CP Technician) to join our growing team!


The Cathodic Protection Technician role is a great entry point into a growing industry with high demand! This position does not require prior experience or a specific higher education degree/education. We have employees with a variety of backgrounds currently in these roles (education, physics, criminology, environmental studies, geology), and we are more than willing to train the right candidates!


This position requires 75% travel (anywhere in the U.S.). This is an hourly position that will require the ability to work overtime while traveling. You will travel with a company vehicle, and you will be provided per diem.


The Cathodic Protection Technician is responsible for ensuring the pipeline system is operated in compliance with all company and client policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and coordinates maintenance and operations for the pipeline system within the company. Our Cathodic Protection Technicians work with the CP systems installing, commissioning, monitoring, evaluating, maintaining, and repairing. This role involves a large amount of travel and fieldwork.


Responsibilities:

  • Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures
  • Prepare for planned cathodic protection projects
  • Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs)
  • Operate and use testing equipment
  • Perform troubleshooting on cathodic protection systems
  • Gather data, and prepare records and reports in a timely manner
  • Install, maintain and repair components of a cathodic protection system
  • Ensure your work is utilized with respect to company goals
  • Document and report any incidents, near misses, and opportunities for improvement
  • Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with land survey, navigation, interpretation of engineering designs, mechanical repair, IT, and/or construction a plus
  • Ability to travel extensively for physically demanding work in an outdoor environment
  • Capability to operate a company vehicle, ATV, and use general hand/power tools
  • Must have strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities
  • Commitment to working safely and producing high quality, ethical service
  • Good organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Highly motivated and thrives in a dynamic, team-based environment
  • Desire to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and management; locally and through other office locations
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Desire to learn and understand basic cathodic protection
  • Interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and build positive working relationships
  • Well-organized and able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Willingness to learn applicable State and Federal regulatory requirements (CFR 49 Part 192 & 195)
  • Willingness to learn NACE standards and test methods
  • Ability to use computers and other office equipment
