Job Description

Under the direction of campus facilities leadership, the Facilities Operations Manager provides leadership and oversight for all grounds, landscape and pest control operations on campus. Including leading a team of both union and non-union employees, fostering an environment for continuous improvement. Performs related duties as assigned; related duties include, but are not limited to, snow removal & event support.

Job Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring front-line associates and supervisory personnel
• Recruiting, retention and professional development for the entire department
• Proficient utilization of a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
• Management of employee time & attendance
• Pursue corrective action and the manage the progressive discipline process
• Safely and sustainably designing, renovating and maintaining campus landscapes
• Promoting a safe work environment, conducting routine safety meetings & inspections
• Promoting an environment of collaboration, trust and respect
• Partner with the sustainability group to maintain environmental awareness and meet campus sustainability initiatives, as they relate to campus landscapes & pest control
• Daily use of technology; including internet browser, MS Office, mobile phone & e-mail
• Maintain expertise through continuing education and professional affiliations.
• Operational understanding of all department equipment, managing repairs as needed
• Analyzes campus landscapes to determine culture needed to maintain and correct problems at the site. This includes recommending plantings and specific placement
• Manages large landscape projects, using landscape design software as needed
• Verify the work of outside contractors is performed to scope, including associated costs
• Recommends, develops, procures and implements fertilizer programs for campus landscapes. Includes identifying & treating plant disease
• Maintains gardens and plantings by pruning, spraying, fertilizing and cultivating
• Assures compliance with applicable health and safety standards
• Assists in budgetary responsibilities
• Participate in various department committees
• Management of snow removal plan
• Contributes to the success of the Department, performing all other duties as assigned

Physical requirements and work environment: Work is routinely performed in an outdoor setting with exposure to all weather conditions. Work involves frequent standing, walking, and use of hands and fingers to dig, handle and feel. Periodically there is also the need to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, and regularly lift objects (up to 50 pounds). Similar requirements may be needed during the workday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 5 years' experience in Facilities Grounds management
• Driver's license
