Oversee the Electrical Engineering group at Brookfield; support new product development, technology assessments and production support projects. The Team Leader is responsible for management of a small team and will also participate in direct hands-on development tasks related to hardware and firmware development. The overall team will be responsible for hardware and firmware in a wide variety of laboratory and process instruments, along with development testing and production documentation. The electrical engineering team is responsible for the embedded system designs needed to deliver several major product developments per year. This role requires a strong engineer who can take on technical challenges themselves and delegate and manage others effectively.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The ability to balance management tasks, firmware, and hardware designs, as well as managing other engineers developing firmware and hardware, running tests, and completing documentation.
  • Work closely with engineering management and project leaders to align team resources to meet product development goals.
  • Coordinate w/ AMETEK units in Germany and Chandler, Arizona, as needed and support convergence to common hardware and firmware platforms across product lines.
  • Team management tasks include tracking tasks, mentoring, performance reviews and development planning for a group of 4 to 6 engineers and technicians.
  • Hardware development tasks include working on a project team to develop specifications and identify preferred design approaches.
  • Develop system architecture, component selection, schematics, and board layout.
  • Prototyping and verification testing, leading to production documentation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have B.S. in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering or 10+ years of relevant experience in the design of embedded software or firmware for instrumentation or related products.
  • Considerable electrical design and product development experience is required.
  • Must have experience and background to enforce best engineering practices.
  • Direct experience with circuit board and embedded system development; analysis, design, prototyping, testing, and production documentation are required.
  • Extensive experience with technology development and product development including application of proven working methods, procedures, and tools.
  • Includes phase-gate development process and structured problem-solving methods like DMAIC.
  • Capable of mentoring and training others to adopt these practices as well as demonstrating them consistently.
  • Highly capable using ECAD applications [Altium] for design and documentation and analysis tools: [PSPICE, MATLAB, or equivalent].
  • Some knowledge of firmware development and experience using C/C+ or similar is preferred.
  • Six-Sigma training preferred, DOE and/or training in structured problem solving and statistical methods for design e.g. Taguchi.
  • Experience with small embedded systems with both digital and analog design challenges, beyond application of reference designs:
    • ARM cores & other microcontrollers, System on Module (SOM)
    • Step motors, drivers and motion control, also special purpose brush and drag cup motors
    • Temperature measurement and control, +-0.1 deg.s C max
    • ADC integration for instrumentation including load cells and inductive transducers; precision applications applying noise mitigation to enable high sample rate [500 Hz].
    • Transducer performance over wide ambient temperature range
    • LCD, touch screen integration, also simpler display UI technologies, e.g. touchpad.
    • Communications, printing and external control via Ethernet, USB, Modbus.
