Dane County is currently looking for a Corporation Counsel. Salary is $76.92. The successful candidate will negotiate an Employment Services Contract that provides for compensation and other benefits. Please provide a resume with your application.

DEFINITION

Under the direction of the County Executive, coordinates the implementation, administration, evaluation, reporting and coordination of goals, objectives and priorities of the OCJR based upon long and short-range priorities recommended by the CJC and endorsed by the County Board. Ensures that the OCJR provides staff support to the CJC and its subcommittees.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Using a racial equity lens, serves as a liaison for criminal justice partners across county, municipal and state criminal justice agencies and departments, treatment providers, administrative departments, tribal communities, and concerned residents, bringing together resources that differ broadly in character and purpose to improve the criminal justice system; Connects and facilitates communication between governmental and non-governmental agencies including but not limited to police, prosecution, defense, probation, courts, public health, community services, offender assistance, victim assistance, alcohol and drug treatment educators, and mental health service providers while expanding partnerships and increasing opportunities for system improvements; Facilitates communication with justice stakeholders and local communities to promote an understanding of the administration of criminal justice in Dane County and the public safety issues and challenges facing the county; Identifies opportunities and recommend adjustments in criminal justice policies, procedures, and programs, based on empirical research, evidence-based practices, and state and federal laws; Identifies and pursues external federal, state and foundation grants; Develops and disseminates information to promote the understanding of criminal justice programs, services, activities, regulations, objectives, and administrative proceedings to a wide variety of audiences including the general public, community groups, public agencies, and private organizations; Identifies opportunities and recommends improvements in criminal justice practices, procedures, programs, and policies based on evidence-based practices, data driven decision making, performance and outcome measures and evaluation standards; Enables data development, coordination and linkages with various agencies including development of performance measures and assessment tools to measure progress toward endorsed priorities; Oversees collection of data from criminal justice agencies for the purpose of identifying and researching policy and programmatic changes to enhance the efficiency of the criminal justice based on data sharing memoranda of understanding; Facilitates meetings, leads work groups and coordinates special projects as directed by the County to support OCJR goals and objectives; Identifies points of opportunity among OCJR partners, facilitates collaboration and problem solving that maximize partnerships while actualizing the priorities of the OCJR.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Training and Experience:

A combination of experience and/or education equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Public Administration, Political Science, Social Work, Law or related field; 2 years of this experience must be performing progressively responsible professional and managerial experience in criminal justice systems including, but not limited to, defense, prosecution, judiciary, law enforcement and corrections, some of which would include public or media relations experience.

Special Requirements: Must have, or be able to obtain a valid driver's license and have access to personal transportation.

Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.)

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements: Work involves walking, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, and reaching within normal ranges. Prolonged computer and phone use. Manual dexterity using fine and gross motor skills is necessary. Ability to speak and be heard by others. Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without corrective devices. Work in office environment.
