Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Finance manages the daily operating activities of accounting, finance, and payroll processing. The individual plans, organizes and implements activities and procedures to effectively manage all finance functions for the Summit Community Care Clinic in relation to accounts payable, payroll processing, cash management, and financial statement preparation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. This individual effectively supervises the Accounting Staff, which includes staff hiring, training, performance evaluation, corrective action, motivation, and morale. The Director of Finance sets performance standards and implements monitoring mechanisms to ensure staff performance meets the Chief Financial Officer’s established expectations and provides support for analysis and information needed to make major operational, financial, and strategic decisions. The Director of Finance must demonstrate regard for the rights of all patients, staff, and volunteers.

Essential Functions:


A. Financial Reporting Functions

  • Coordinates the month end general ledger closing process.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financials to support CFO in reporting to Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and the Executive Team.
  • Responsible for preparing special reports for regulators, funders, governmental agencies, grantors, and banks.
  • Work collaboratively with the CFO for the annual Budget development.
  • Act as a resource person to all staff regarding accounts payable and payroll processing, general ledger accounting, billing, and subsidiary ledger postings.
  • Maintain communication with SCCC Development team and support grant accounting, documentation, processes, and reporting.

B. General Ledger Operations

  • Monitors the maintenance of the general ledger and accounting system. Implements changes for all accounting functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Reviews documentation and workflow, and conducts spot-check audits to ensure the proper use of the Administrative Procedures in accounting department.
  • Ensures regular reconciliations between the subsidiary and general ledgers. Develop and maintain efficient interface systems between subsidiary and general ledgers.
  • Supervise the coordination of information needed for the Corporate Financial Audit and preparation of the IRS Form 990 related to accounts payable, payroll, general ledger functions.
  • Supports government reporting and special projects as required – Medicaid Cost Report, UDS, and 340B.
  • Understands and promotes highest documentation standards.
  • Work with personnel to code timecards to grants.
  • Process balance sheet accounts and revenue entries for grants.
  • Maintain audit compliant records related to grants.
  • Support grant team with budgeting, reporting and other analysis.

C. Operations Support

  • Identifies and implements practices and procedures to promote efficiency in the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
  • Keeping current all Financial Policies, procedures, and process documentation for accounting department.
  • Become subject matter expert on Financial Edge to support accounting team.

D. Personnel Management

  • Hire, train, manage, and evaluate accounting personnel. Develop and maintain a competent and efficient staff. Coach employees to achieve success.
  • Establish and oversee work assignments for accounting assigned duties, while maximizing efficiency.
  • Train Accounting staff on new procedures and agency reporting requirements as they develop. Ensure that accounting staff is following organizational policies and procedures appropriately.

E. Additional Requirements

  • Grants are a vital part of Care Clinic revenues and directly or indirectly support all positions. This role may have responsibilities that are strongly associated with grant deliverables. Grants and grant responsibilities may change over time.
  • Complete all required trainings as designated by HR and the position supervisor.
  • Adhere to all policies within organization and those outlined withing the SCCC Employee Handbook. Comply with all SCCC Vaccine Mandates.
  • Embrace the SCCC Mission and Vision and agree to work within the SCCC Guiding Principles and the principles set by the position supervisor.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the CFO.

Education/Experience:


Must Haves to be Successful:

  • Multiple years in accounting for experience.
  • Experience required with an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university in Accounting or Business Administration required. CPA license preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read, write and clearly speak the English language.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with multiple linguistic cultural variables.
  • Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, co-workers, administration, physicians and providers, community agencies, referral sources, regulators, and other health team members.
  • Ability to enlist the cooperation of others.
  • High tolerance for stress.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and people skills.
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines.

Nice to Haves:

  • Not-for-profit experience preferred.
  • Prior healthcare experience preferred.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis experience preferred.
  • Ability to clearly speak the Spanish language (bilingual) preferred.

Work Environment:

The work environment is in a healthcare setting and can be fast paced and involves communication with patients and medical personnel. This role is highly clerical in nature.
