Job Summary
The Development Assistant plays an instrumental role in helping the Gift Planning team achieve the annual fundraising goals and priorities established by the Boston Children’s Hospital Trust. Using a broad understanding of the department’s fundraising philosophy, this individual leverages an array or administrative, communication and organizational skills to help cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule with an on-site requirement of six days per month.

This Development Assistant, Gift Planning will:
  • Provide general office support including answering phones, greeting and directing guests, and providing other basic administrative help as necessary.
  • Maintain meeting calendar of supervisor and schedule internal and external appointments and meetings with donors, doctors, volunteers, trustees, and hospital staff. Reserve and prepare conference rooms and order refreshments for meetings and donor visits.
  • Maintain constituent information in donor database including biographical information, Trust codes, solicitor actions and proposal information.
  • Assist in developing materials for use in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects.
  • Prepare invoices for the department including payment requisitions for vendors and employee reimbursements, serving as the main contact to resolve discrepancies. May reconcile monthly bills with overall budget.
  • Assist in coordinating logistics for events including: tracking attendance, securing room space, ordering refreshments with vendors, and working at the event.
  • Assist supervisor with projects and preparation of reports and documents, as needed.
To qualify, you must have:
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of fundraising related work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred and would replace the experience requirement.
  • Volunteer or intern fundraising experience is a plus
  • Critical thinking skills/ability to communicate professionally
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with others and foster a positive organization and brand image
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint)
