YOUR LIFE AS A COMPANION CARE - DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

This part-time position with our human services nonprofit typically works according to operational needs with some on-call hours.

As a part-time Companion Care - Direct Support Professional, you're responsible for attending to the daily needs of our clients with disabilities by using a person-centered approach. You implement and monitor individual service plans (ISPs) and employment plans, such as work readiness training, job preparation counseling, external education, vocational training referrals, and job placement. To facilitate community integration, you assist clients in accessing important resources, obtaining financial independence, identifying recreational opportunities, and building new relationships.

In addition, you teach socialization skills and daily living activities as well as administer and document individual medications as prescribed by a physician. You transport individuals with disabilities to and from community or job-related activities and provide clients with leisure time to foster independence. Using your strong organizational skills, you maintain a working knowledge of ongoing program issues and developments as well as inform your supervisor of any concerns. You also ensure client safety and comply with program standards for staff coverage.

Whenever you're on duty, you strive to provide a supportive environment that includes opportunities for clients to determine personal preferences for daily schedules and routines. Before the end of each shift, you record all necessary data, daily progress notes, and other required ISP and program documentation. You also participate in core training and maintain required certifications, such as CPR and first aid. You enjoy serving as a role model and positive influence on your clients, and it brings you great satisfaction to know that your work contributes to our nonprofit in such a big way!


WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver's license in the state of residence
  • Reliable vehicle to transport individuals as needed
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in various training areas, including CPR, first aid, behavior management, medication administration, and driving
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Covid-19 vaccination
