The Coder- Apprentice will code and abstract all clinic medical records, for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis and procedure(s) using ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS classification systems.
Job Roles
  • Accurately codes records using ICD-9-CM, HCPCS/CPT coding rules
  • Assists and confers with other coders and supervisor
  • Communicates effectively with providers
  • Meets professional development and continuing education requirements
  • Updates coding books with changes as they occur
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County
  • Proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Licensed for a minimum of 3 years; No more than 2 violations and/or accidents within 3 years; No vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving with 7 years.
  • Associate's degree in Medical Record Technology preferred.
  • CPC-A certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements
  • Ability to accurately complete data entry at relatively high speed, utilizing grammar and spell check software.Basic computer literacy (i.e., use system to manage and schedule appointments, access electronic medical record information).
  • Bilingual in English/ Spanish preferred

$18.50 - $18.50
If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
