Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Cloud Operations Transformation Lead working remotely within Global IT Services.

Role Description

The Cloud Operations Transformation Manager will be reporting into the IT Chief Architect and serves a key role that oversees the transformation of Gen Re infrastructure area to a cloud centric operating model leveraging industry best practices, a high level of automation, and DevOps. It should be noted that Gen Re has already migrated to the Microsoft Azure cloud, this role will be responsible to establish and implement best practices for oversight and governance. Key responsibilities and deliverables include:

1. Gen Re has contracted with a vendor to help enable a Cloud Operations transformation. The candidate will oversee that vendor’s activities and ensure the success criteria is met.

2. Jointly develop and maintain the CloudOps (Cloud Operations) roadmap with the vendor, this is focused on replacing legacy on-premise infrastructure operational processes with Cloud centric ones. These can include automation of existing processes in change management, release management, incident management etc. with DevOps as well as defining new processes to achieve optimization, efficiency, and reliability in infrastructure delivery

3. Oversee the implementation of the vendor provided Cloud management framework, Cloud Exponence, its related governance processes and the catalogues proposed by the vendor as well as the One Engine automation tool

4. Govern and steer the creation of the FinOps (Financial Operations) operating model, this will focus on establishing controls and governance for Cloud related costs. The operating model will include the following (among others):

a. An Azure tagging strategy to provide cost attribution to IaaS and PaaS services, and an ability to allocate costs back to business stakeholders

b. Establishing a governance model where budget owners have accountability for Cloud related costs, with reporting, approval and forecasting capabilities

c. Identification of cost optimization and reduction opportunities, with review and approval processes

d. Validation of achieved vs proposed cost savings

5. Transition the CloudOps and FinOps operating models into a business-as-usual steady state

6. Continue to mature and advance Gen Re’s CloudOps capabilities with increasing levels of efficiency, reliability and cost optimization of our Cloud based platforms

7. Develop roadmaps and strategies to move from IaaS to PaaS and SaaS infrastructure offerings

Role Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience managing infrastructure teams with a proven track record in IT operations
  • 5+ years of experience working in Cloud environments, Azure is preferred however AWS and GCP will also be considered as qualifying
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, or similar field.


Salary Range

149,000.00 - 249,000.00 USD

The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
