Position Summary

Position provides administrative laboratory and customer service support for the Dermatopathology Center in the Department of Pathology & Immunology.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receives, sorts and processes laboratory specimens by following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Stores and retrieves samples from long term storage.
  • Enters data and/or searches computer files for pertinent data. May utilize database, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory and office equipment.
  • Cleans glassware and distributes to analytical areas. Stocks work area. Maintains general laboratory cleanliness. Follows all laboratory safety requirements.
  • Communicates with client offices as needed to ensure specimen information is complete and accurate.
  • Performs clerical duties, copying, mailing, filing, etc. May pick up and distribute incoming packages and mail.
  • Demonstrates and promotes excellence in customer service and good working relationships with coworkers and clients. Projects positive and professional image of laboratory.
  • Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed.

Working Conditions

This position works in an environment that has potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory and computer experience in a medical setting.
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Salary Range

$15.60 - $20.83 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
