DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves assisting with direct and indirect patient care duties and providing oversight and control of treatment room supplies and inventory in a clinical department at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. This is a paraprofessional position in which the incumbent delivers routine patient care or assistance, maintains condition of treatment room and performs a variety of errands. The work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-level clinical departmental staff and/or licensed medical professional. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assists medical or nursing staff in treatment or diagnostic procedures;

Assists in the admission/assessment process and clerical discharge activities for patients; orients patients/families to clinical department and instructs patients on safety measures;

Obtains routine specimens for diagnostic testing; performs routine urine testing;

Assists with post-mortem care;

Monitors and maintains quality assurance and quality improvement activities;

Picks up and delivers x-rays, supplies, mail, scans, pharmaceuticals, specimens and other items as needed

Supervises supply and inventory activities;

Orders, maintains and stocks treatment room equipment and supplies;

Receives and checks deliveries for quantity, quality and condition against purchase orders, invoices, records or other authorization documentation; sorts and stores supplies;

Maintains inventory and supply related records and prepares reports;

Performs routine cleaning and maintenance activities and makes minor repairs to treatment room equipment;

Assists in physical inventories;

Attends in-services, department meetings and educational offerings;

Participates in quality improvement activities, committees or process improvement groups.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of standards of patient care; good knowledge of infection control techniques; good knowledge of HIPPA regulations; good knowledge of treatment room procedures; good knowledge of methods of ordering, receiving, storing, maintaining and issuing supplies and equipment; good knowledge of supplies and equipment used in the department; ability to prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications, including electronic medical records; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of healthcare experience that included direct patient care and material management.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

Schedule: Full Time - FT, Day Shift, 7A-3P,730A-330P,8A-4P,830A-430P,9A-5P-Monday-Friday with poss weekends
