Responsibilities: Job Summary
The Cash Applications Lead monitors all payments received within the department, works more independently, is considered a subject matter expert, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position performs training and research related activities to manage payments from electronic vendors, lock box, hospital departments, collection agencies and live deposits. Reconciles courier cash deposits, performs desktop deposits and assigns payment activities as needed. The Cash Applications Lead, reconciles provider level adjustments and posts them to the appropriate patient account or suspense/clearing account. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the department. Assists with daily/weekly/monthly balancing of all transactions and provides support to both the cash posters and leadership team, as well as other departments as needed. Completes special projects and system testing as assigned.
  • Monitors and assists with uploads or manually posts cash transactions, denials and zero payments into the patient accounting system. Balances all batches, given the proper claim disposition, and adjusts according to department guidelines.
  • Documents the cash spreadsheets with the necessary information for balancing and reconciliation purposes. Keys adjustments and transfers as needed.
  • Identifies and allocates non-patient cash for transfer to suspense/clearing account and corresponding ledger. Ensures accurate cash application.
  • As a subject matter expert in Cash Applications, may assist in the following:
    Training Cash Applications Specialists/Representatives
    Development of training documents
    Be a backup resource for posting staff Completes special projects and system testing as assigned
  • Stays current with knowledge of revenue cycle, HIPAA, Federal & State regulations, hospital policy, and reimbursement criteria. Attends all department & payer meetings as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.
