Job Duties

The Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities in the Commonwealth. DJJ is seeking a highly motivated professional to oversee and direct the business and fiscal management activities of the Virginia Public Safety Training Center (VPSTC) and Residential facility offices, to include Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center; Supervise each locations Business Manager; Responsible for the supervision of the Food Operations Director, Chief Dietitian and USDA School Nutrition Program (SNP).

The incumbent will:

Periodically review, control, and report expenditures to remain within budgeted allocations; ensures that all funds (state, federal, grant, etc.) are expended appropriately and within permissible parameters.

Ensure that all procurements, payments, reports, and all other fiscal operations are complete and processed in a timely and accurate manner.

Review, interpret, develop, and implement policies and procedures to ensure that the business offices are in compliance with Agency and Commonwealth policies and procedures.

Ensure required sanitation inspections are performed, required training for food service staff in the field locations are scheduled and performed, required facility visits are made to ensure proper food safety and preparation practices are met, and documentation is filed according to the requirements of the USDA School Nutrition Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Commonwealth accounting policies and procedures and preparation of complex financial reports; considerable knowledge of budgetary processes; considerable knowledge of Commonwealth procurement processes and procedures and managing contracts and service agreements; demonstrated ability to supervise, train and direct subordinate staff in a diverse environment; demonstrated ability to develop, interpret and apply policies in areas of oversight; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and to organize and schedule own work and supervise, manage, and direct day-to-day activities of others in order to meet deadlines and provide exceptional customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college/university, with coursework in business administration,
finance, accounting, budgeting, or similar, or an equivalent combination of education, training,
and/or experience demonstrating the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities; considerable
experience in an administrative or management capacity with a focus on supervision, coordination and training preferred.
