Schedule: Mon - Thu 12:00 - 8:00 and either Fri or Sat 7:00 - 3:00
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for performing whole blood collection procedures (phlebotomy) and related activities in the donor room or at mobile sites in accordance with BBD guidelines. All levels of Blood Collection Technicians conduct donor eligibility during Medical Interviews, phlebotomy, as well as discontinuation of blood procedures while monitoring the donor’s progress during the procedure according to collection guidelines.

Career Ladder Program: After 6-9 months of whole blood collection as a BCT-I, individuals meeting skill proficiency guidelines may advance to the next step by learning an automated collection platform for double red cells using an ALYX machine. Once completing training on the ALYX machine and the proficiency guidelines met individuals move to an assignment as Blood Collection Technician- II. As a Blood Collection Technician-II performing both whole blood and automated double red cell collection there is room to grow after another 6-9 months to a Blood Collection Technician-III or Apheresis Technician. In this role, individuals learn to perform a procedure in which part of the blood such as platelets or white blood cells taken out, and the rest of the blood returned to the donor. Once apheresis training is completed and proficiency guidelines met, there is an assignment to a Blood Collection Technician- III.

The job classification is “essential” during severe weather or emergency operation events. We provide 6 weeks of training with mandatory attendance to those who possess strong customer service, professional phlebotomy training or experience, and an interest in helping us meet the demand of blood collection in the community as a mission driven organization.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy training or experience is preferred
  • 2+ years of face to face customer service experience
  • 1+ years of entering detailed data into a computer system
  • 1+ years of successfully managing multiple tasks in a fast paced working environment
  • CPR Certification is a plus
