THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY

LOCAL TITLE: BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN

STATE TITLE: Paraprofessional, ESE, Ages 6-21

JOB DESCRIPTION


JOB GOAL:

To provide school level behavioral support to students receiving services from the Behavior Support Team as well as students receiving Coordinated Early Intervening Services. Function as a support to the district’s ESE Behavior Specialists to help prepare and implement behavior support plans. Travel to schools throughout the district. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrator in the Exceptional Student Education/Student Services Division.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with exceptional students, preferably those with behavior disorders.
  • Ability to complete and maintain certification in Professional Crisis Management (PCM)
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to be moved as assigned.

Problem Solving – Ability to find a solution for, or to deal proactively with work-related problems. Working Under Pressure – Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations. Organizational skills- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and manage time wisely. Computer Skills - Ability to access input and retrieve information.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting school based teams in providing social skills groups and other coordinated early intervening services.
  • Assist in collecting data in school settings.
  • Assist in the monitoring of behavior support plans.
  • Assist in behavior related training.
  • Assist in supervision of students on campus as well as in classrooms.
  • Train other support staff in techniques necessary to implement behavior support plans.
  • Assist teachers in the supervision of students presently being served by the Behavior Support Team (this may involve one-on-one instruction, escorting students, etc.).
  • Assist in providing resources for students and teachers (this might include making materials for teachers, assist with the distribution of resources available for check out, etc.)
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Provide for a safe and secure workforce.
  • Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, parents and students.
  • Participate in workshops and trainings as required.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems and unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  • Demonstrate support for the School District goals and priorities.
  • Follow School Board policies, rules and regulations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the Manatee Education Association (MEA) and the School Board of Manatee County. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District and the bargaining team.


EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the Manatee Education Association (MEA) and the School Board of Manatee County.
