Job description

The Strategy & Business Development group at BD Biosciences complements the business’s internal product development capabilities by expanding the reach of BD Biosciences. The Strategy & Business Development team works closely with multiple functions across BDB to evaluate potential partnering opportunities, in alignment with the business’s strategic, financial, and operational goals, and has primary responsibility for implementing business deals with partners.

Associate Director, Corporate Strategy & Partnerships is an individual contributor who reports to the VP, Corporate Strategy & Business Development and is a part of a team with responsibilities including supplying to strategy projects in growth initiatives and driving partnerships

This position requires a qualified professional with experience working in a corporate or business unit strategy group in a large organization. The candidate should have a track record of supporting high priority growth strategy projects, conducting market evaluations and opportunity assessments as well as preparing and communicating recommendations to senior leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead aspects of projects / workstreams that drive overall growth strategy
  • Full project ownership including research (internal and externally supported), analysis, hypothesis formulation and testing, market and financial modeling, recommendation development or presentation development and delivery
  • Ability to drive cross functional collaboration across the business and to lead multiple challenging priorities in a fast-paced environment, including driving new external partnerships
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses to support organic and inorganic strategy development, using insights from multiple sources (driven, consumer, internal financial, etc.)
  • Proactively supervise and evaluate key consumer, technology and external market changes to identify emerging trends and new opportunities

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6-8 years total material experience with time spent in a corporate strategy group or management consulting firm
  • Experience within healthcare industry / life sciences is strongly preferred
  • Strategic Framing & Analytics: Aims to get beyond the abstract and general to deliver meticulous, nuanced and practical recommendations. Ability to deliver insightful data analysis & synthesis that uncovers customer and market opportunities
  • Comfort with Ambiguity: Ability to work in a fluid environment and adapt project approaches as internal or external conditions change
  • Project Management: Ability to plan and tightly lead the scope and life cycle of a workstream while balancing multiple partners
  • Financial / Quantitative Analysis: Consistent track record to complete quantitative and qualitative analysis and financial models
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication / presentation skills using different sources of presentation media. Proven track record to communicate effectively with executives and garner high levels of credibility
  • We are looking for someone who combines intelligence, excellent problem solving, strategic mentality, natural curiosity, modesty, and a strong work ethic to join the existing team.
  • Ideally, the candidate would have experience working in the healthcare/life sciences industry with a confirmed working knowledge of the industry.

Preferred Educational Background:

  • BA/BS (science, business, math or econ/finance)
  • MBA or advanced degree in a field related to the role and needed background

  • Ability to come up-to-speed quickly on new technology areas.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Able to work on multiple projects with challenging priorities.
  • Experience working in a highly-matrixed organization.
  • Comfortable speaking with both business people and scientists.
  • Able to travel up to 30% of time
