The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Scouting for WVU Football.

About the Opportunity

The Assistant Director of Scouting position is in place to assist in the player evaluation aspects within the college scouting space by way of the transfer portal, along with setting a comparative environment through the evaluation of our own roster and players who currently compete within the conference. This position will also assist coaches in preparation for upcoming opponents through an advance scouting process as part of the department as a whole.

This position will be heavily involved in player evaluations by utilizing resources and tools provided, as well as preparation for the portal window throughout the year.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in the creation of the weekly in-season advance used to create an introductory snapshot of opponents for coaches as they begin their game planning process.
  • Evaluation of players on the WVU roster and other Big 12 rosters to analyze and identify strength and weaknesses of a roster.
  • Transfer portal organization, providing early identification of potential transfer options to pursue during the transfer portal windows.
  • Oversight of the scouting department student assistant program.
  • Development and maintenance of the Catapult scouting database on the college scouting side.
  • Management of the portal best available board throughout the season with a thorough understanding of the talent available relative to the current roster and conference.
  • Report directly to the Director of Personnel & Scouting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of college athletics experience as a player, coach, or staff member or related field.
  • Ability to evaluate talent using a set standard of position specifics and critical factors that relate to a player’s ability to succeed in the game of football.
  • Ability to project future valuation of a player in regards to his peers.
  • Time management to balance all of the evaluative requirements for the job.
  • Being able to stay organized with tracking lists and multiple teams to watch and evaluate throughout a season.
  • Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations with the ability to interpret, apply, enforce and explain such policies and rules.
  • Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function professionally under high stress and confrontational circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks for extended period of time.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and organize work.
  • Proactive attitude towards work and assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and develop personal contacts with outside groups, i.e. student-athletes, professional representatives, fans, media, donors, University community.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping and adherence to schedule.
  • Ability to stay abreast of information impacting the affected area.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate groups and individuals.
  • Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards, work extended hours including nights and weekends (often with extensive walking and standing).
  • Demonstrated skills in management of a Division IA (FBS) intercollegiate football program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effected areas of involvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel.
  • Ability to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgments.
