The assistant behaviorist is responsible to assist the IRA and Day Hab behaviorist in the monitoring and implementation of behavioral supports in the IRA and Day Hab programs.

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:
Care of Individuals:

1. Employs procedures which maintain an environment of care that is safe and therapeutic.
2. Attends treatment team and annual meetings
3. Completes required documentation in compliance with Agency, Medicaid and OPWDD standards
4. Safely transports individuals as assigned per level of supervision required.
5. Assists assigned individuals with specific tasks as designated by individual treatment plan.
6. Assist with the development of Functional Behavior Assessments
7. Ensures and monitors data collection within assigned programs
8. Participates in psychiatric and counseling appointments as assigned
9. Completes integrity monitoring of behavior plans as needed
10. Completes program observations to ensure the use of NADSP Code of Ethic, OPWDD Core Competency and approved behavioral approaches.
11. Assist and completes training of staff in behavioral techniques and diagnosis as assigned and models positive behavior supports.
12. Participates in the treatment team or recommendation process.
13. Assures appropriate boundaries
14. Adheres to the DSP Code of Ethics
15. Demonstrates the ability to meet the OPWDD Core Competency standards
16. Successfully completes all required trainings
17. Maintains current with all required trainings

2. Learns and implements each individual treatment plan including: physical interventions, documents and makes proper notifications according to procedures.
3. Provides coverage as assigned.
4. Remains on-duty until properly briefed and appropriate parameters are met.

1. Actively participates in supervision.
2. Participates in agency and other staff development opportunities as assigned.
3. Attains and actively participates in all assigned trainings.
4. Attends and participates in staff meetings

1. Engages in department planning and goal attainment.
2. Participates in activities and committees.
3. Changes work location to meet agency needs.
4. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality.

1. Completes all necessary communications, documentation, and loggings.
2. Properly notifies and/or consults with the Behaviorist
3. Proactively and effectively liaisons with other disciplines, internal and external Service Providers and families as appropriate.
4. Appropriately utilizes chain of command.
5. Maintains professionalism.
6. Engages in appropriate workplace conversations

1. Completes assigned cleanup procedures, checklists and schedules.
2. Proactively and effectively liaisons with House Manager, Coordinators, Direct Support Supervisors and Directors.
3. Runs routine in the absence of other team members when necessary.
4. Supports Quality Assurance Quality Improvement directives

1. Completes other responsibilities as properly assigned by supervisor or designee. When required, assures and assists with supervision of all individuals served.
2. Promotes and supports cultural diversity and competence and is strength based.

4. Models positive behavior supports.

1. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
2. Must be able to be mobile in a multiple story building, with or without reasonable accommodation.

3. Willingness to respond to the needs of a culturally diverse population.
4. Travel as required.
5. Ability to work a flexible schedule
6. All positions including overnights are AWAKE positions
7. Basic knowledge of computer systems and ability to use basic computer systems (email, internet, data collection)
8. Ability to deal positively with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
9. Display a positive, professional and proactive attitude to accomplish quality work that is in line with the agency’s mission statement.
10. Seek opinions, alternative viewpoints in decision making. Understand and respect the expertise and experience of others, appreciate the different views, and the perspective and limitations of other individuals.
11. Exhibits a professional, courteous demeanor with internal and external constituents.

1. Must possess a Bachelor's degree in one of the following disciplines: psychology, social work, school psychology, applied psychology, human services
2. Must be actively pursuing a Master’s degree in the area of psychology, social work or special education. Completion of one graduate level course each year.
3. Experience working with individuals diagnosed with intellectual disabilities for a minimum of 3 years.
4. Has obtained or will obtain OPWDD approved specialized training or experience in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development.
5. Valid Driver License with clean MVR as to ensure ability to drive agency vehicles
6. Ability to write legibly
7. Ability to communicate effectively with other disciplines and individuals served.
8. Ability to perform physical interventions.
