Responsibilities


OPPD's Maintenance Services Department is looking for two machinists to join their team!

The machinist will become familiar with the duties and responsibilities of a First Class Machinist by completing the four-year apprenticeship program of study and on-the-job training.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Complete each phase of the Apprenticeship Program.
  • Assist in the operation of all shop machine tools including lathes, milling machines, hydraulic presses, and grinders.
  • Assist in the maintenance of various equipment in the power stations and with installation inspection, and repair of power plant equipment.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner which complies with the District’s safety procedures and keep work area clean.
  • Responsible for the proper care of tools and economical use of supplies.
  • Perform tasks related to the use and handling of hazardous material. Perform work on nuclear power station equipment and components located in radioactive areas as required. (For Central Maintenance personnel)
  • Regular and dependable attendance is required.
  • Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

Qualifications


This role will be filled commensurate on experience.

Helper Machinist

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Requires a high degree of mechanical ability, related machine shop experience.
  • Knowledge of safety, mathematics and mechanics are also needed qualities.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available for overtime work as required.
  • Must demonstrate cardio-pulmonary and physical fitness required for utilization of respiratory protection equipment.
  • Must pass the M.A.S.S. test.

Desired:

  • Completion of an industrial education program or equivalent training desirable.

Apprentice Machinist

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Requires a high degree of mechanical ability, experience in machine shop functions in power station or related industry work
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Must have good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available for overtime work as required.
  • May be required to report to any job headquarters within the District.
  • May be required to work in radiation areas at the Fort Calhoun Station in accordance with Federal and District requirements. Central Maintenance employees must obtain unescorted access and meet all other requirements to work at the Fort Calhoun Station.

First Class Machinist

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree or equivalent work experience in mechanical work preferred.
  • Requires a high degree of mechanical ability, general machinist experience, and completion of the OPPD approved machinist apprenticeship program, the ability to work from blueprints and drawings
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Must have good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available for overtime work as required.
  • May be required to report to any job headquarters within the District.
  • May be required to work in radiation areas at the Fort Calhoun Station in accordance with Federal and District requirements. Central Maintenance employees must obtain unescorted access and meet all other requirements to work at the Fort Calhoun Station.
