What is AmeriCorps? This is an AmeriCorps position. AmeriCorps is a national service program, in which individuals dedicate their time to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Central Georgia Council’s AmeriCorps Mentors in Scouting program is a 10-month commitment, in which members serve in elementary and middle, and high schools and other local nonprofits. Over the 10-month period (September - June), members serve part-time and receive a semi-monthly living stipend and an education award once their service term is complete. Members will be dedicated and required to serve up to 30 hours weekly to successfully complete the program, AmeriCorps is often called the domestic Peace Corps. Member Duties : • Coach/mentor elementary, middle, high school students and facilitate activities centered on educational activities during our after-school program; Fall, Spring, Summer, and Fall Break Camps; and 1 Saturday morning a month program outing. • Create and lead weekly group sessions to help students • Collect observations, discuss behavior management strategies, etc. • Track student progress through maintaining detailed and accurate records of group sessions. • Support program staff in recruitment by participating in community events. • Foster meaningful and productive relationships with students and parents. • Engage with community volunteers up to 10 Saturdays over the program year. • Coordinate and support volunteers during national and local days of service, including MLK Day and AmeriCorps Mentors in Scouting Day.
