The Bonnie Springer School is located at Murdoch Developmental Center (MDC), one of three Regional Centers in the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities within the Department of Health and Human Services. The Bonnie Springer School is within the Education Department at Murdoch and provides educational instruction for all eligible residents of the Center(ages 5 - 22). This school is primarily attended by approximately 45 youth that are receiving comprehensive residential care through one of the Center's Statewide Programs (SWP). Youth within SWPs have intellectual/developmental disabilities as well as significant behavioral or mental health concerns. School educators within the school, in collaboration with the division team, parents/guardians, and community resources, are responsible for developing and implementing an Individual Education Plan for each student in accordance with the NC Department of Public Instruction and the policies that govern students with disabilities.
The Administrative Associate II is supervised by the School Administrator/Director of Education, but also receives direction from the Administrative Specialist I that is assigned to provide support to the Education department.
The Administrative Associate II is responsible for:
  • Greeting and assisting visitors at the Bonnie Springer School
  • Answering incoming phone lines, delivering messages
  • Helping to coordinate school tours and meetings
  • Helping to track school personnel time and attendance
  • Inventory monitoring to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Type assigned documents such as letters, memorandums, and any other necessary correspondence within the school electronically.
  • Also responsible for working within the budget maintained by the Administrative Specialist I while ordering educational and office supplies.
  • Process work orders necessary for the provision of building maintenance
  • Perform Powerschool data management duties and responsibilities in accordance with the NC Department of Public Instruction
  • Assumes responsibilities for office operations in the absence of the Administrative Specialist I, as needed, and the provision of office assistance to other divisions on campus as assigned.
Salary Grade: NC02
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $46,734

Scheduled work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, along with one mandatory Saturday per year for Murdoch Center’s Annual Farm Day Event.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Recent experience in office support in a professional environment with thorough knowledge of office procedures, methods and practices. -Experience in operating a multi-line telephone system.
  • Experience maintaining and creating electronic and hard copy filing systems.
  • Recent work experience using MS Office (MS Word and MS Excel).
  • Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, proofreading, and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting; experience in ordering supplies electronically.
  • Demonstrated experience to multi-task, independently plan, prioritize and organize time to accomplish work objectives within established timeframes.
  • Proven ability to schedule and coordinate a variety of appointments, meetings, and/or conferences.
**Successful applicant must have ability to obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), First Aid and CPR certifications.**

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
