Job Summary:

The Accounting Services Lead shall possess a thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position will be responsible for month-end and year end closing, processing journals entries (including investment related activities), and serve as the primary contact for campus departments for general ledger transactions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform audits of internal controls for cash handling.
  • Prepare audit schedules, work papers and management reports.
  • Give recommendations for control improvement.
  • Assist auditees with implementing the recommendations, including developing written operating procedures.
  • Responsible for monthly accounts receivable reconciliation
  • Ensure bank reconciliation, accounts payable reconciliation, chargebacks, transfer of expense, billing and cash posting orders are completed in a timely manner with acute accuracy.
  • Responsible for all investment/endowment analyses, reconciliations, and reporting; will act as liaison between campus departments and brokerage associates.
  • Monitor account balances, perform aging analysis, and prepare write-off recommendation.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to general ledger and CFS.
  • Research of FIRMS combo editing errors.
  • Other ad-hoc reconciliations.
  • Primary accountant for month-end and year-end closing.
  • Process journals including investment related activities in accordance with CSU policies and campus guidelines.
  • Generate financial reports including financial statements for Auxiliaries.
  • Serve as the primary contact person for campus departments on general ledger transactions, providing financial management guidance, training, and oversight.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external procedures, guidelines, and requirements set forth by a variety of regulatory agency sources: Campus, CSU Chancellor, ICSUAM, SAM, FISMA, GAAP, etc.
  • Complete special assignments and other job-related duties as requested from Associate Controller and University Controller.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Experience: Equivalent to five years of professional level accounting experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Analyze and resolve complex business or accounting problems.
  • Skilled in organizing work and setting priorities.
  • An understanding of general accounting concepts.
  • Microsoft Windows Office experience including Word, Excel, and Outlook email software.
  • Experience with ERP systems (general ledger module)
  • Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ability to reconcile general ledger accounts (i.e. bank and balance sheet accounts)
  • Ability to prepare complex financial statements and reports; understand and interpret laws and rules; communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying complex and technical professional accounting information to non-Accountants.
  • Ability to fit in with a large team environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • A courteous, professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with audits, developing and implementing internal controls.
  • CSU accounting and reporting experience.
  • Previous experience in higher education.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,242 - $7,045 per month

Classification Salary Range: $5,242 - $10,116 per month

Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Probationary

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
