Serves as a relationship builder to connect with customers and account managers or agents to develop positive relationships. Responsible for the overall service experience and retention of business within assigned accounts or region. Primary point of contact for customers, agents and/or sales producers in territory(ies). Serves as the main contact and account manager of small commercial customers based on defined scope. Performs underwriting based on guidelines and within authority levels for new and/or renewal business.

What You’ll Do

As an Account Specialist with Hortica, a brand of Sentry Insurance, you’ll provide support to our Account Executives and Independent Agencies for their existing and prospective clients by assisting with the overall service and retention of business. In addition, you’ll:

  • Serve as the gateway for incoming customer and/or sales force service needs, changes, questions, and issues while effectively reviewing and explaining coverage items.
  • Complete all agent additions, changes and/or terminations into agency management system (AMS) while overseeing maintenance of agency files.
  • Manage small commercial accounts to ensure appropriate retention while also presenting new and renewal plans and recommendations for additional coverages for these smaller businesses.
  • Communicate with sales, underwriting and operations to gather underwriting requirements and customer documents/signatures, monitor quote status, renewals and policy changes to ensure requests are fulfilled in timely manner.
  • Maintain potential prospects, generate prospecting materials and proactively provide Account Executives with information to ensure sales goals are achieved.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system errors and escalate issues to appropriate individuals as needed.

What it Takes

  • Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Property & Casualty License required; if not currently licensed, must obtain within 120 days of hire
  • Prior Commercial Lines insurance experience required with knowledge of insurance products and/or underwriting guidelines strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in sales applications as well as other software
  • Composure, strong customer service skills and ability to build and maintain relationships is key
  • Presentation and selling skills are required
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment and work independently with little direction.
