Summary

This position conducts research on psychoeducation, team-building lessons/activities, and/or mental health resources in our community to support GESMN’s YouthBuild program and participants. This includes research of topics and activities, lesson creation and planning, delivering the lesson to YouthBuild students, and/or locating mental health service providers in the community that meet participants’ unique needs. Topics for classes might include self-care, empathy, effective communication, setting a positive culture, team/community building.

Schedule & Time Commitment: Schedule for research is flexible; YouthBuild classes are held Mondays-Fridays, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Volunteer Duties

• Research & Networking:
  • Research psycho-education topics and/or mental health resources in the area, including:
    • Mindset, goal setting & building structure in your life, and preparing for the follow-up period
  • Research interactive, virtual activities/engagement techniques
  • Research engaging, virtual presentation methods
  • Research youth development strategies
  • Research other social services relevant to YouthBuild participants (housing, health care, expungement, etc.)

• Content Creation:
  • Create a lesson plan based on above research.
  • May also include creating document/flowchart/other to present staff with mental health resources, presentation for youth on the mental health resources, etc.

• Presentation:
  • Present on effective youth development strategies to staff
  • Assist and/or execute Leadership & Career readiness curriculum planning and lessons
  • May also include delivering the lesson plan for YouthBuild students

Requirements & Qualifications

• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Must have interest in providing services to YouthBuild’s target population (at-risk youth, age 16-24)
• Must have access to the technology needed to meet the responsibilities of the position
