We are hiring Fire Captains that will supervise and oversee a number of Firefighters and Fire Engineers in an assigned Fire Company. The Fire Captain oversees activities including fire suppression, emergency medical incidents, hazardous materials spills and other emergency incident calls and supervises a fire crew to ensure safety. The Fire Captain provides assistance to the Battalion Chief. In absence of the Battalion Chief position, the Fire Captain shall report directly to the Fire Chief.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • State, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (ProBoard) Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials-Operations level certification
  • Five years full-time Firefighter service
  • State or National Registered as an EMT-P or EMT-B certification
    • Current ACLS certification if EMT-P
    • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Valid driver license with good driving record. DUI within last 5 years is disqualifying
  • Able to work 24 hr shifts
  • Able to work any shift assigned, including nights, holidays and weekends
  • Available to work overtime as assigned and as needed on an emergency basis
  • Physical Agility Fitness Test (Initial Hire and Annually)
    • Work Capacity Test - Arduous Level (Pack Test)
    • Pass full DOT physical: bending, pushing, pulling, crouching, and vision

Responsibilities:
Fire Suppression
  • Manages the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a fire station and the apparatus and personnel assigned to that station.
  • Supervise a fire and rescue crew and the station apparatus dispatched to emergency scenes, including fire scenes, emergency medical calls, hazardous materials incidents, etc.
  • May serve in the capacity of incident commander at emergency incidents.

Customer Service
  • Conduct fire safety, home safety, fire extinguisher and pre-fire planning inspections.
  • Provide information to the public, install smoke detectors, conduct station tours, visit schools, and participate in public education standbys.
  • Fire Captains direct technical and functional supervision over firefighting staff and directly and indirectly supervise Firefighters, Fire Engineers, Fire Lieutenants and EMS personnel assigned to a specific fire station.
  • Fire Captains supervise the safe operation of company apparatus at all times.
  • Fire Captains delegate duties and responsibilities to subordinates.
  • Perform annual or bi-annual performance evaluations of assigned crew members and create and implement Performance Action Plans if necessary.
