Overview:
Waterman Valve, a division of McWane Plant & Industrial, is a recognized leader in water control products for water treatment, wastewater, high-volume agricultural and rural surface water delivery, hydro-power, and flood control management. We are a leading provider of water control gates, valves, automated controls and accessories to these markets and key customers such as government agencies (water districts, utilities, flood control districts) and agricultural water users (growers, cooperatives).

Waterman Valve has one of the industry’s largest manufacturing operations where we fabricate, machine, and test our water control products. Led by managers trained in the latest quality systems, we carefully monitor all of our processes to ensure quality at
each step of design and construction.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Junior Buyer based out of the Exeter, CA location.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions List of significant/essential duties, tasks and/or responsibilities required of this position.

  • Keep accurate information such as pricing, descriptions, and other miscellaneous supplier information in the company’s database to ensure accurate information is accessible to proper company personnel.
  • Input of purchase orders in the database. Close out purchase orders. Create and maintain purchase orders for special orders.
  • Schedule and coordinate all planned orders and special orders with the individual requestor.
  • Process discrepancies by contacting vendors, arranging parts, disposition, and processing paperwork.
  • Assist other departments with information regarding product availability, sourcing and prices and vendors with invoice payment.
  • Responsible for expediting and coordinating a large variety of items such as equipment, machine parts, general and electrical inventories to ensure material is on hand for maintenance and warehouse stock levels are maintained.
  • Keep needed buyers and requestors knowledgeable of delays and problems of their respective purchases.
  • Process daily direct charges, updating residual variances, and setting up new warehouse stock items.
  • Advises warehousing personnel on re-stocking materials regarding quantities, pricing, and shelf-life to ensure the Company’s inventory is correct.
  • Maintain the vendor database including name, address, phone number, email address, payment terms and minimum order amount. Maintain additional information including physical location of the vendor, pickup points of vendor, and names of contacts.
  • Follow all safety and working rules.
  • Must have the ability to get along with co-workers, management personnel, customers, vendors, and employees in accordance with the company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and ethical work environment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute towards a quality environment.

  • Professional conduct at all times when acting on behalf of Waterman Valve/McWane.
  • Strict adherence to Waterman’s Code of Conduct, Ethics and the McWane Way.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
  • General office and administrative skills.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain positive, professional relationships at all levels of the organization.

Education and/or Experience
  • High School diploma plus a college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with purchasing and/or manufacturing is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, professional phone etiquette, and general knowledge of accounting principles.
Hourly Rate: $20-$23

Reasoning Ability
To determine need for developing personnel policies, procedures and programs; provide guidance and assistance to management staff and employees in implementing company objectives; work independently; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; direct and evaluate the work of subordinate staff if applicable; operate a personal computer and use office software programs.
