VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional with BS or BA degree preferred. Experience in dealing with volunteers and with hospice desired. Must have excellent community relations, communication skills and the ability to motivate persons into performing tasks voluntarily. Must have excellent teaching skills to be able to provide volunteer training to volunteer recruits and in-service training to volunteers on an on-going basis. Must have excellent organizational skills. Desire for and aptitude of the hospice philosophy required. Able to work cooperatively with all levels of team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Volunteer Coordinator works as a member of the hospice Interdisciplinary Team and under the direction of the Executive Director to:
  • Recruit, train and orient persons to serve as volunteers for Hospice.
  • Design, implement and coordinate the hospice training and orientation program for new volunteers.
  • Appropriately coordinate the placement of volunteers
  • Establish a system to follow up on participation and documentation of volunteers as they perform their assigned duties.
  • Act as liaison between volunteers and IDT to inform other members of the Interdisciplinary Team of any changes reported by the volunteers regarding the patient’s condition or expressed needs.
  • Assure that volunteer tasks of the Plan of Care are carried out as directed by the Team.
  • Assure that volunteer activities are appropriately documented on the Plan of Care and the EMR.
  • Participate in IDT meetings and keep team members informed of changes in patient/family volunteer POC
  • Establish and maintain, per policy/regulation, record keeping systems for volunteer activities and volunteer personnel records.
  • Report cost savings and a monthly summary of the volunteer activities to the Executive Director.
  • Develop support, retention and recognition programs for volunteers.
  • Perform community awareness and in-service activities.
  • Implementation and on-going evaluation of the We Honor Veterans program.
  • Implements practices that ensures Family Satisfaction measures exceed national benchmarks.
  • Participate in QAPI programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Work as a team member at all times and uphold the Hospice Code of Ethics.
  • Ensures a patient centered culture through CARE (Compassion, Advocate, Respect, and Educate)
  • Work as a team member to fulfill all aspects of Our Gold Standards on a daily basis.
  • Providing a positive image of the Hospice at all times.
  • Adheres to all HIPPA, HITECH, EPHI and company policies and procedures regarding patient protected information.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Job requires the ability to:

  • Support the hospice philosophy as well as the objectives and goals of the Company.
  • Maintain effective oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills, organizational skills and computer literacy required.
  • Interpret, evaluate and quickly respond to business needs.
  • Handle stressful situations/deadlines.
  • Utilize strong ethics and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Work cooperatively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Forecast needs and to set priorities.
  • Communicate the mission and vision of the hospice.

ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

Aviant Healthcare will provide orientation and training, as necessary, to assist the Volunteer Coordinator in performing the responsibilities listed above. Trainings may be in-house, or outside seminars. Evidence of orientation and training will become part of the personnel file.

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Access patients’ residence and all rooms therein

WORK CONDITIONS

  • May require sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. Some driving/travel required. May require occasional lifting, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs.

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Reports directly to the Director of Clinical Services/Executive Director

STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly
