The American Song Archives (ASA) in Tulsa, Oklahoma is the home of the archives of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Cynthia Gooding and many other archival and library collections. The ASA welcomes visitors from around the world to the Woody Guthrie Center and Bob Dylan Center—located in Tulsa’s vibrant Arts District and adjacent to the historic Greenwood District—and hosts academics and writers who utilize the archives for scholarly research.


Position Purpose

The Video Producer will manage all video assets for ASA. Working independently as well as with freelance videographers, the Video Producer will edit, archive and manage shoots for video content as well as oversee coordination of freelance needs. In addition, the Video Producer will assist with defining and planning video concepts and uses for a broad range of projects within ASA.


Responsibilities / Essential Duties

  • Develop and maintain all operational strategies, processes and templates used in the video production work cycle.
  • Lead video planning sessions with colleagues and create creative briefs and production scope-of-work based on requirements.
  • Develop scripts and storyboards, scout locations, determine equipment and resource needs, create and track project and production timelines and budgets, and select optimal media content for projects.
  • Evaluate, recommend and source equipment and software as well as permits, approvals and site-access permissions for filming.
  • Select, assign and manage the schedules of staff and freelance videographers as needed.
  • Coordinate and lead video participant interviews and gather clearances and any follow-up approvals.
  • Produce and edit videos for a variety platforms and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to designers to guide the development, placement and integration of static and motion graphics into videos.
  • Coordinate status reporting, screening and video feedback in a timely fashion.
  • Manage distribution and public posting of final videos with teammates.
  • Manage video footage library in digital asset management system including raw footage, b-roll and final cut, indexing with relevant metadata.
  • Lead the creation of videos that meet both internal and external communications objectives.
  • Coaching on-camera talent to deliver high-quality productions.
  • Request and log transcriptions for archiving material as well as subtitle and transcription needs.
  • Ensures the completion of assignments within deadline.
  • Helps oversee the storage of all raw video and audio files, maintains archival copies.
  • Collaborate on developing file naming standards and technical specification standards for video assets and help ensure adherence to standards
  • Participate in discussions and decision-making around production and long-term (LTO, cloud, etc.) storage solutions for video assets
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field or equivalent years of work experience
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience
  • Expert knowledge in recording and editing audio and video
  • Expert knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe production design tools, including Premiere, After Effects, Audition and Illustrator/Photoshop.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates strong expertise in editing, storytelling, production, animation and motion graphics.
  • Exhibits ability to analyze target audiences and synthesize messages to maximize audience engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines and maintaining attention to details.
  • Proficiency with both Mac and PC operating systems.
  • Knowledge of video codecs and wrappers.
  • Social sensitivity and ability to build internal relationships and communicate realistic solutions to stakeholders/customers.
  • Experience with video asset file and folder organization preferred.
  • Familiarity with file integrity standards and use of checksums preferred.

Physical requirements

  • This position requires frequent standing, walking and lifting equipment for set-up and during shoots.
  • Ability to sit at editing station for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, hold and carry 60 pounds of video related equipment.

Hours and Location

  • This is an in-person position based in Tulsa, Oklahoma
  • A typical work week is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • The work week will occasionally vary with advance notice depending on scheduled programming and other events; may require evening or weekend hours for special events or tours.
  • Travel may be required.
