We are a 2 doctor primary care veterinary clinic that provides evidence based preventative medicine and surgical care for dog, cats, and some pocket pets. Our services are by appointment include:
  • Wellness examinations for all life stages
  • Vaccinations
  • Professional dental cleaning
  • Routine/preventative surgeries (spay/neuters)
  • Elective surgeries (lump/mass removal, cystotomy, cherry eye correction, entropion correction, ear hematoma repair, exploratory; etc)
  • Comprehensive Exams
  • Diagnosis and treatment/management of injuries.
Urgent care and emergency care and referred to a local ER across the PA/MD line about 20 minutes away from our hospital. We are privately owned by Dr. Emily Shew and her husband, Jeremy. They have owned this practice since April 2010, but Lincoln Way Animal Hospital has been in existence since 1952. We are a close knit, but professional family oriented staff, which is among our strongest qualities. We pride ourselves in quality over quantity, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
We do believe in offering a living wage starting with positions at $15 or more (depending on experience and skill level) for all hospital team members, benefits, mental health support, and continuing education.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Veterinary Nurse's play an integral role in the care of the patients and clients of Lincoln Way Animal Hospital. The nurses work directly with the DVMs, other nurses, and support staff to provide medical support and help the doctor achieve greater efficiency by relieving technical work, record keeping and communication tasks. They have a very significant role in communicating with and education clients about their pets.
REPORTS TO:
Practice Manager, Supervisors/Operation Managers/Team Leaders
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT/RVT/CVT) desirable, but not required
Minimum two years experience as veterinary nurse or assistant
Experience with basic office functions in a busy office environment.
Ability to be a direct communicator with peers and clients.
Ability to be professional and respectful in attire, speech, mannerisms, time management, hospital policies and boundaries.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to perform technical skills including, but not limited to: venipuncture, IVC placement, cytology, patient intake, patient triage, collecting urine and fecal samples, performing diagnostic imaging, preparing and performing laboratory tests, filling prescription medication, administering oral, topical, injectable, transdermal medications as prescribed
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 18 years old.
Genuinely enjoys working with animals (and their people) and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
Approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
Has excellent communication skills.
Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
DUTIES:
Provide compassionate care to our clients and patients.
Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, treatment plans, protocols, and procedures.
Anticipate the needs of the doctor and ensure efficiency of appointment flow, care of patients, and complete medical record keeping.
Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas.
