Job Title: Driving Instructor

Job Summary: Brookring Federal is seeking a Driving Instructor to instruct high school students at Flandreau Indian School (FIS). Up to 25 students may be enrolled in the class during the spring semester.

Place of Performance: Flandreau Indian School, 1132 N. Crescent St., Flandreau, SD 57028

Period of Performance: Instruction will be provided each year in the spring quarter for 11 weeks from approximately mid-February/early March to mid-April.

Work Schedule: Driving Instruction will occur Monday-Friday 2pm-3:30pm.

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver lessons that promote students’ theoretical and applied driving skills.
• Communicate with students to ascertain which of their abilities require further development.
• Prepare lessons tailored to students’ needs.
• Provide instruction on the parts and functions of a vehicle, and on-road regulations.
• Teach practical skills related to all aspects of driving.
• Help students to develop confidence in their driving skills.
• Gain control of the vehicle during emergency situations.
• Calm students who are in distress.
• Document and report on students’ progress.
• Inform students when they are ready to take the driver’s test.
• Report all incidents to the lead Flandreau Indian School Teacher and Assistant Principal.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driving license.
• Valid driving instructor’s license or certification.
• Clear driving record.
• Clear criminal record with ability to pass background investigation.
• Ability to work during school day hours.
