Responsibilities:

The Director of Underwriting Support will oversee the underwriting support functions within the underwriting department while simultaneously leading the Quality Control Auditors. The director is responsible for all workflows and processes in support of the underwriting teams as well as leading and measuring compliance in company audits. Responsibilities also include partnering with various levels of management throughout the company to analyze and communicate quality control findings, recommending solutions, and working collaboratively in the development of meaningful action plans. The Director of Underwriting Support will also take an active role in the creation of Aspire’s formal Training and Development Department.

Specific Duties

  • Responsible for the creation, monitoring and management of key underwriting support metrics including timely and quality issuance of renewals, quotes, binders, policy issuance endorsements, cancellations and reinstatements
  • Evaluate, monitor and recommend improvements to current processes and workflows to gain efficiencies for underwriting support functions
  • Develops and executes Quality Control strategy, including the design of process and procedure documents related to SOX compliance
  • Provides subject matter expertise to the development of relevant automation technology, product design, underwriting and operations
  • Ensure documented procedures and training manuals/materials are kept up to date
  • Monitor unit reports and unit workflow to ensure all tasks are completed and issued in accordance with compliance rules and guideline
  • Ensure execution of the strategic plan through alignment with all underwriting managers on segmentation, distribution and product strategies
  • Accountable for staff selection, training, retention and development of assigned team
  • Responsible for the strategic allocation of resources, within staffing model, that will drive desired business results
  • Identifies issues/impediments to achieving business results and implements corrective measures
  • Lead delivery of appropriate customer service levels
  • Oversees and is responsible for monitoring training and development based on individual and unit needs - Coaches, develops and provides feedback to associates
  • Participate on projects and initiatives as assigned by leadership
  • Models behavior that encourages collaboration, teamwork and open communication
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of P & C insurance industry experience
  • Underwriting experience
  • Surplus lines experience required
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance principles, rates, rules, forms, procedures, regulations, coverages and business processes
  • Ability to analyze complex administrative or business problems, evaluate alternatives, and make appropriate recommendations
  • BS/BA college degree or equivalent work experience
