By joining the District 2 Project Delivery and Preservation Branch Hopkinsville Section office as a Transportation Engineering Technologist I in Christian County, you will have the opportunity to oversee, inspect, and document construction projects to meet KYTC standard specifications.

Holders of the Transportation Engineering Technologist I position will complete tasks such as:
  • Overseeing contractor operations on minor construction and maintenance projects.
  • Inspecting and working with the public.
  • Producing daily reports.
  • Completing Quality Assurance tests.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Learn to read highway construction plans.
  • Learn to operate surveying equipment.
  • Experience inspecting highway maintenance and construction projects.
  • Obtain certifications required for construction inspection and materials testing.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Highway maintenance or construction experience
  • Microsoft Office suite experience
  • Experience with Site Manager
  • Multi-tasking and organization skills
  • Attention to detail
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: None

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR 2. High school OR 3. High school

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: 1. Must have three years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR 2. Must have six years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the second education option above; OR 3. Must have four years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified Inspection Team Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the third education option above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
