Skyward Construction is looking for Tower Climber Technicians with and without experience to join our company.

Job requirements

  • No experience necessary starting wage depends on expeirence
  • Basic mechanical abilities with hand tools and simple power tools.
  • Ability to work reliably under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent physical conditioning and stamina.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions; including but not limited to snow, rain and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out written and verbal instructions.
  • Observe all company procedures and safety rules.
  • Work as part of our team to ensure customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Climbing and working on communications towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment; performs tower maintenance under close supervision
  • The basic use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment
  • Knowing the hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working on or near energized lines and equipment
  • The ability to climb elevated structures (100 feet or more) with 50 lb. load
  • Analyzing situations accurately and adopt an appropriate course of action Follow instructions accurately and complete assigned duties
  • Recognizing safety hazards and performing duties in a safe manner
  • Perform duties as required under direction of the crew leader to perform tasks as specified within the scope of work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc. in the accomplishments of Skyward’s goals
  • Drivers License with clean record (CDL not required but is a plus)

Key information for new employees in wireless telecommunication industry

Safety is our top priority. We utilize both in-house certified trainers and outsource training for each employee. Training programs are as followed. Safety Training includes the following

  • Fall Protection
  • Tower Rigging
  • General Safety
  • OSHA 10 hour
  • First Aid CPR
  • RF awareness
  • Blood Borne Pathogens
  • Hazard Communications
  • Capstan Hoist operations

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk or hear. Occasionally the work requires the employee to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequently the employee is required to lift or carry up to 10 or 25 lbs., and occasionally up to 50 or 100 lbs. Able to climb to and work at heights exceeding 300’. The employee needs to have good vision for close work, distance, color discrimination, peripheral, and depth perception.

Construction Training

A safety and training orientation will be the first part of training and then an employee new to this industry will spend 6 months of on- site training with crew leads and tower leads just learning the basics of wireless construction. It takes a minimum of 2 years’ experience to progress to a position of leadership but your pace of growth is based on your desire to learn and grow.

Day to Day

Overnight travel is a must. Most often our crews deploy on Monday and are at home by Friday evening. Per diem is paid on a debit card for the week and is paid upfront based on nights spent away from home and the hotel is covered by the company with two crew members per room. A crew is typically 4 people and our workweek averages 50-60 hours per week and all hours after 40 are paid at an overtime rate of 1.5 times your hourly rate.
