POSITION OBJECTIVES: Responsible for providing leadership and direction to a highly skilled team responsible for constructing molds for new products. These molds include but are not limited to hulls, liners, decks, small parts, fixtures, and other production support equipment as needed.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and direction by defining schedules and maintaining Key Performance Indicators.
  • Supporting the timely execution of assignments related to new product mold construction through the functional areas of the Tooling operation: Pattern, Lamination, Steel fabrication & welding, and Final finishing.
  • Eliminate non-value-added work that will lead to reducing our mold development costs
  • Develop and implement process improvements that will drive critical metrics in safety, quality, and the elimination of nonvalue added work throughout the tooling process.
  • Responsible for monitoring and scheduling routine and preventative maintenance of shop equipment, forklifts, mold movers, etc.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels internal and external to the organization.
  • Support and follow through on action items identified in employee opinion surveys.
  • Maintain an employee skills matrix to assist in the continued development of team members to provide growth and development opportunities.
  • Lead the activities of interviewing, hiring, performance reviews, corrective actions of team members
  • Help facilitate an efficient flow through the mold development process leading up to and including manufacturing reviews and approvals.
  • Must be committed to quality standards acceptable by Boston Whaler and customer base
  • Manage departmental 6S audit process making sure safety standards are followed and that the shop is maintained in a clean and orderly manner daily.
  • Communication of and ensure company policies and procedures are understood and followed.
  • Must be willing to work as required to complete critical projects on time.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience with direct supervision over an hourly workforce
  • Proven leadership and mentoring ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Marine industry knowledge and mold building experience preferred
  • Experience with PC based software (word, excel, data acquisition, materials procurement)
  • Demonstrate problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in a wide variety of mold construction methods to include current and advancing technologies preferred
  • Self-starter, high energy individual who leads others and completes assignments effectively

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AS Degree / college level course work preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures
  • Additional technical training in related fields preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
