As chief executive and academic officer of the School of Business, the new dean will provide vision and strategic direction for VSB, one that continues to advance the School as a place of excellence in both teaching and research, increasing VSB’s impact as it produces leaders who drive positive change wherever they go. The new dean will enjoy strong collaborations across the Villanova community and the opportunity to cultivate and maintain deep and meaningful connections with alumni, donors and the external business community. VSB’s next dean will continue the realization of a more diverse and inclusive faculty and student body, advancing the Catholic and Augustinian identity of the University. They will engage and empower a strong administrative unit as well as an outstanding faculty and staff, bringing a student-centered approach and an enjoyment both of advancing their school and contributing to an institution-wide leadership team on behalf of the University.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The dean of the Villanova School of Business (VSB) serves as the chief executive and academic officer for VSB. The dean provides strategic vision and leadership for VSB as well as energy, creativity and strategic direction, and is responsible for its overall success, well-being and stature as one of the nation’s premier business schools.

The dean is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the president; they report and are responsible to the provost. The dean is expected to collaborate joyfully and regularly with the deans of Villanova’s other five schools and colleges in advancing the good of the whole and partnering with and supporting one another, and it should be noted that this is a close group of deans that is eager to welcome its next member to the team. The dean serves as VSB’s public voice, articulating its contributions to local, state, regional, national and international communities and pursuing an aggressive agenda to build VSB’s and Villanova’s resources.

The dean is responsible for VSB’s educational excellence and innovation; its contributions to Villanova’s Catholic-Augustinian character; its administrative efficiency and programmatic quality; and faculty and staff recruitment, development and retention. In addition, the dean oversees VSB’s financial well-being within the context of the University’s financial capabilities and in cooperation with the Office of the Provost and University Advancement.

Minimum Qualifications:
The next dean of the Villanova School of Business must bring a record of academic and/or industry achievement that will garner the respect of the faculty. The new dean will have experience in administrative leadership and will be a community-building, strategic leader with the ability to engage diverse constituents in imagining the future of business education and leveraging the University’s strengths. The dean should demonstrate inspiring leadership qualities including an unwavering focus on student success, the ability to listen deeply and inclusively, and a record of decisive action and effective execution. Additionally, the new dean should have the ability to form strong relationships with alumni, donors and corporate partners that engage each in the success and well-being of VSB.

The new dean must be a highly engaged and accessible leader with the commitment and ability to advance diversity, equity and inclusion, and a deep appreciation for Villanova’s commitment to its Augustinian Catholic mission and how those values integrate into and enrich the work of a world-class business school.

Candidates with significant leadership experience outside of academia will also be considered if they demonstrate significant knowledge, experience and/or support of teaching and scholarly achievement that will garner the respect of the VSB community.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong preference will be given to individuals who possess a terminal degree in a relevant field and a demonstrated record of successful teaching and scholarship suitable to warrant an appointment to the VSB faculty; in addition, some corporate leadership experience is desirable.
