he Test Engineer II develops and fabricates prototypes, machines, tests, troubleshoots, and iterates assembly and subassembly designs, including mechanical components, and controls and provides data collection and analysis to enable product development engineers to make informed, data-driven decisions.

The compensation range for the Test Engineer II is $80,000 - $95,000 annually.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Sets up and maintains sophisticated mechanical systems involving assemblies of plastic and metal parts.
  • Develops test procedures for the engineering characterization of components and assemblies following existing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Performs root-cause analysis of tested units to discover, characterize, and track failure modes.
  • Performs troubleshooting on test equipment to provide context for professional repairs.
  • Performs metrology and tolerance analysis.
  • Operates 3-D printer to build assemblies, subassemblies, and testing fixtures, or alter these to support test jigs and conduct specific testing as needed.
  • Fabricates, modifies, and repairs mechanical instruments when necessary.
  • Documents Lot History Records and the bill of materials for each build and the test data for each test.
  • Drafts test protocols and/or reports on special test cases that do not have existing test protocols.
  • Designs and redesigns devices, fixtures and semi-automated parts using Solidworks and Fusion.
  • Participates in brainstorming sessions, technical and design reviews, and risk analysis.
  • Communicate with product development and manufacturing teams regularly to ensure proper data capture, to provide feedback on test cases, and to determine the next steps of action.
  • Combine test data and data analysis into a competent and precise presentation and present conclusions to the product development and manufacturing teams.
  • Conducts vendor and capability research on current test practices outside of the company for benchmarking comparison and to improve current test practices.
  • Shares information with outside vendors or contractors as necessary to improve testing capabilities.
  • May use Minitab, or other software to analyze test data.
  • Based on the individual’s capabilities, the opportunity to expand responsibilities to include product design, writing specifications, and other opportunities may exist.
  • Other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization may be assigned.

Job Qualifications

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to consistently promote, support, work, and act in a manner in support of Aktiv’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Hands on experience prototyping, machining, testing, troubleshooting and iterating designs.
  • Knowledgeable of the test-pivot-and-change startup, development approach.
  • Working under tight timelines
  • Inter-personal skills to coordinate and collaborate with team members and across other task teams.
  • Ability to deal with different and specialized situations and learn on an on-going basis to keep up with the changes in technology.
  • Detail orientation, multi-tasking skills, time management and organizational skills enabling the individual to accurately work at a fast pace to meet deadlines.
  • Exposure to and ability to understand scientific, mechanical engineering, analysis principals, engineering drawings, technical documentation, and math calculations.
  • Writing analytical ability to develop processes and capture them to report documents.
  • Ability to distinguish between symptoms and causes of problems (root-cause analysis) and take prompt action to resolve them.
  • Exposure and ability to understand regulatory and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards.
  • Written and oral communication to be able to build relationships and communicate the process for making a decision, conducting a test, building a product, and for collaboratively critiquing a design and resolving problems.

Experience and Education :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Sciences, or closely related discipline
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a pharmaceutical or medical device engineering environment or a related field is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
