The Pre-Collegiate Summer Scholars Program (PSSP) is a seven-week bridge program designed to help 200 students each summer prepare to excel and manage the challenges of the first year at Cornell. PSSP is a critical component of Cornell’s outreach and inclusion mission. Scholars are identified by their colleges during the admissions process and include students admitted through special programs such as EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) or HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity Program). Scholars generally are enrolled in regular summer-session courses as well as enrichment courses. The program includes field trips, guest lectures, and a wide range of social and cultural activities. Tuition and fees, travel, textbooks and room and board charges for all those selected are covered by the program; health insurance and a stipend are provided for lower income students. The program is housed within Cornell’s Learning Strategies Center, the central academic support unit for all undergraduates at Cornell University.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the PSSP Director, we are seeking a temporary student services position to support the key functions of the program. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Event review and planning such as collection and review of college activities, planning of program-wide activities, reserving needed spaces, collaborating with campus partners and preparing the orientation including updating Canvas site and other required materials, etc.
• Assisting the Director in PSSP student peer mentor selection and training, including organizing training schedule and materials, coordinating with Conference Services PSSP mentor arrival and move in, work with Conference Services and colleges regarding on-site student peer mentor training and professional development, etc.
• Assisting in the general preparation for PSSP, including answering new student questions (program, travel, housing, etc.), updating Canvas and other program information, monitoring email and making appropriate referrals, etc.

This is a 30 hours/week temporary position not eligible for university benefits. It is located in Ithaca, New York with the job being performed on campus. The position will start as soon as possible and is anticipated to continue through August 15, 2023.

Compensation: $25 - $30 an hour

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, Social Sciences or related field and at least 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination.
