The Department of Veterinary Sciences (VS) within NCRD is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They are seeking a Technical Operations Senior Manager to join a dedicated team of laboratory science professionals in a supportive, team-oriented environment. This position will be based out of Cambridge Crossing, which is currently under construction and targeted for occupancy in June 2023. This location is a collaboration between Bristol Myers Squibb and Charles River Accelerator and Development Lab (CRADL™). In this role you will provide collaborative site and global leadership and support within a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases.

The incumbent will be responsible for providing an interface between BMS research staff needs and CRADL in vivo operations in an approximately 15,000 sq ft. facility supporting multiple therapeutic and functional areas. The position will report directly to the Global Technical Operations Director, Veterinary Sciences and be a key member of the VS Leadership Team contributing to VS activities globally.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Enable high quality in vivo research by supporting BMS scientific staff needs and ensuring alignment with BMS standard.

  • Collaborate and support scientific groups in the discovery and development of innovative medicines

  • Manage multiple local, regional, or global BMS projects and responsibilities that enable the highest quality in pharmaceutical research; represent VS on industry, corporate and site-level initiatives and teams

  • Work closely with groups responsible for areas such as CRADL staff, research quality assurance, engineering and facilities, safety and occupational health and security

  • Encourage and promote the 3Rs and maintain BMS’s Culture of Care

  • Evolve and maintain BMS standard operating procedures and guidelines; participate in the assessment, qualification, and animal welfare monitoring of third-party partners

  • Travel domestically and internationally with consecutive nights away as needed to meet departmental needs and for continuing education purposes

  • Other functions as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of academic / industry experience

or

  • Master's Degree and 6+ years of academic / industry experience

or

  • PhD and 4+ years of academic / industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master’s in Biology, Life Sciences or equivalent

  • Certification as Laboratory Animal Technologist or Certified Manager of Animal Resources or other relevant specialty is preferred

  • 5+ years’ experience in managing laboratory animal facilities or teams

  • 10+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical research or similar research settings

  • Expert knowledge of the regulatory requirements and guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals and experience with related regulatory and accreditation efforts

  • Ability to successfully collaborate and develop effective working relationships with research staff and service providers

  • Experience with new and innovative facility design and vivarium integrations is an asset

  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team while leading and energizing others to reach goals

  • Ability to prioritize, balance and be accountable for multiple responsibilities while demonstrating the highest values, resiliency and emotional intelligence
