The Novelis North America (NNA) team is seeking a Technical Development Engineer. The candidate is a key member of the
Ford OEM Team, with the major responsibility of deploying Novelis technical expertise at customer engineering and manufacturing facilities during the development of new and optimization of existing products.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Responsibilities
  • Identify customer requirements for aluminum sheet products, including alloy and appropriate surface treatments and topographies
  • Develop and negotiate customer specifications and identify or develop Novelis products and processes to meet them.
  • Assist customers with alloy selection through communication of design and manufacturing guidelines
  • Participate in customer design reviews
  • Assess part formability through virtual or physical testing
  • Develop product delivery specifications in conjunction with Novelis mills or blanking/tolling subcontractors
  • Handle sheet product qualifications
  • Support customer tool tryouts and joining assessments
  • Address issues with implementation of Novelis products into OEM manufacturing stream
  • Lead Novelis R&D activities based on customers’ needs and growth opportunities in alignment with the Technical Development Manager
  • Lead projects in partnership with OEM Engineering from concept to conclusion
  • Lead and make valuable contributions to discussions on all new alloy developments with regard to specific customer requirements.
  • Work in partnership with OEM Materials Engineering, R&D, Supply Chain and Product Development to qualify processes and products.
  • Design and lead internal trials with Kennesaw and Manufacturing plants.
Qualifications
  • 5 - 8 years of automotive application/development engineering or alloy development experience, preferably in the aluminum semi-fabricated sheet industry.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment both at the customer and internal level.
  • Bachelors in materials, metallurgical or mechanical engineering, or relevant subject area.
  • Hands-on knowledge with forming and/or joining processes or analysis
  • Experience with automotive material or component evaluation plans
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in the area of customer service on a working level and with plant management.
  • Fundamental knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • Ability and desire to perform formability analysis
  • Ability to understand part prints and work with CAD models,
  • Familiarity with automotive functional requirements such as stiffness, durability, NVH, crash etc.
  • Understanding of APQP process a plus
  • Self-motivated and results driven
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
