Job description

The Growing Generations Child Care Center provides a childcare program in Plymouth, Wisconsin and the surrounding area. They encourage the children's holistic growth through play-based and child-centered activities. They also aim to develop the children's social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination.

Under the direction of the teacher, the assistant will help in developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children, which helps them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.

$2,000 Sign on bonus for full time (30+ hours/week)

$1,000 Sign on bonus for Part time (under 30 hours/week)

Temporary $2.50 incentive added onto posted wage

DUTIES:

1. Review written lesson plans to assist in classroom activities.

2. Assist in observing and recording on-going observations of each child.

3. Communicate with children in an appropriate manner.

4. Assist and participate in field trips that are developmentally appropriate.

5. Assist in planning, organizing, and directing daily activities.

6. Assist in collecting and preparing materials as needed for learning activities.

7. Responsible for the health and safety of the children, on the bus (when applicable), in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.

8. Use positive discipline techniques according to the Growing Generations Guidance Policy.

9. Comply with Wisconsin Statutes Children's Code and Sheboygan Human Rights Associate, Inc. (SHRAI) personnel policies in suspected cases of child abuse or neglect -- record in bound medical log and file.

10. Assist and encourage parents to participate in all aspects of the program.

11. Welcomes parents and volunteers, helping them effectively their skill and ability in planning and carrying out classroom activities.

12. Participate in family activities when requested.

13. Follow Wisconsin Licensing rules for Group Child Care Centers.

14. Follow Emergency Procedures according to the Growing Generations Policies practice monthly Fire / Tornado Drills with the children and staff. (Recorded by Director or Assistant Director).

15. Become an active member of the Site Team; perform any duties to make the site run efficiently and effectively.

16. Maintain confidentiality at all times; both at work and in the community.

17. Attend monthly Staff Meetings and required In-Service Trainings as offered. Participate in 25 hours of Continuing Education (Full-Time) or 15 hours (Part-Time) per year; recording on Continuing Education forms as provided.

18. Assist in preparing the classroom and materials; helping with inventory and clean up of the classroom.

19. Assist in ongoing observations and assessments on each child and record the child's progress.

20. Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

`1. Associate's degree in Early Childhood preferred, must have the Assistant Teacher Certification.

2. Speaking and writing skills that enable effective communication.

3. Skills and abilities to function as an effective, positive team member.

4. Must be able to work well with adults and children with diverse backgrounds and beliefs.

5. Must be able to keep accurate records, and make all necessary documentation in a timely manner.

6. Must pass pre-employment drug test.

7. Must be in good health and obtain a physical examination as required.

8. Must have a Mantoux Tuberculin Testing upon hire.

9. Must be flexible and be able to occasionally work irregular hours.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

1. Frequent significant decision and problem solving abilities.

2. Ability to work as a team member, collaborating with staff, parents, and community resources.

3. Ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and on field trips. This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active or who may need redirection in order to ensure their safety of others in the environment.

4. Ability to assist the teacher in applying the Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt them to the individual needs to children.

5. Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or crisis situation. Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to the children's needs.

6. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

7. Must be able to work independently without intensive supervision.

8. Must be able to balance and prioritize a work load and have strong Time Management skills.
