Essential Functions of the position are detailed below, and include any physical requirements below that.

1. Develops and implements weekly lesson plans utilizing Creative Curriculum that meet the developmental needs of individual students ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
2. Maintains open communication with parents/caregivers through maintenance of bulletin board, newsletters, planned activities, communicates with parents on an ongoing basis regarding their child's progress and participation in class, including parent/teacher conferences.
3. Provides a safe, clean and nurturing environment for the children and ensures proper sanitation procedures are followed.
4. Maintains up to date knowledge in the field by attending seminars, workshops and in-service trainings. Obtain at least 15 professional development hours annually per requirements of Gateways to Opportunity, obtains Gateways to Opportunity credentials relevant to position and works to increase credential levels.
5. Provides services to children of diverse backgrounds, languages, and cultural experiences in a nurturing and sensitive manner.

XKneel and move from sitting, bending, kneeling or standing multiple times a day.
XPush and pull objects up to 35 pounds.
XClimb up and down up to 2 flights of stairs at a time.
XLift up to 35 pounds.

Additional Requirements:
Must be able to walk, run and participate in physical activities with small children. Must be able to bend, stoop and sit at the children's level. Must be able to rearrange classroom equipment and supplies.

Education and Experience Requirements: Relevant Education:
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Bachelor's or AA Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Minimum: High School
HS diploma or GED and 60 semester (or 90 quarter) hours from an accredited college or university with 6 semester or 9 quarter hours in course work related to Child Care and/or Child Development from Birth to age 6.

Relevant Experience:
Preferred: 2 years
in an early childhood classroom
Minimum: 1 year
or new graduate with student learning experience

Certification/Licensure:
Preferred: Certification in Food Safety and Sanitation, CPR and First Aide
Minimum: CPR and First Aide certification within the first 6 months of employment. Must obtain food handler certification within 6 months of hire.
