Managers are essentially partners-in-training and are involved in almost all areas for which partners are responsible. They exhibit technical proficiency and the ability to supervise and complete engagements, possess a thorough knowledge of the Firms policies and procedures, and serve as intermediaries between partners, clients, and associates. Senior Managers exhibit the same positive characteristics as managers. In addition, Senior Managers possess the experience and overall potential necessary to be considered for admission as a partner in the Firm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages, directs and monitors multiple client service teams on client engagements
  • Plans, executes, directs, and complete tax projects in a wide variety of industries
  • Interacts closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise
  • Provides primary and secondary review of complicated or complex tax returns
  • Performs technical tax review and approval of assigned tax returns and governmental tax examinations of
  • any complexity
  • Prepares client billing
  • Assumes full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegates to various tax preparers as deemed necessary
  • Manages tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product
  • Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the Auditing and Accounting
  • Department with larger, multi-disciplinary clients
  • Acts as a resource for tax preparers and audit associates on specific tax issues and/or questions
  • Assumes tax preparation responsibility for the more complex business returns
  • Assumes client service responsibility for assigned clients or for clients where the responsibility has been
  • delegated from a partner
  • Communicates important tax issues and tax developments affecting the Firms clients to the appropriate
  • Firm personnel, including the Corporate Communication Director
  • Works closely with partners and associates on client management
  • Plans the timing and assignment of staff to engagements
  • Delegates and manages governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before taxing authorities
  • Maintains familiarity with qualifications of all tax associates under his/her supervision
  • Reviews work of associates under his/her supervision to ensure that a quality product is consistently
  • delivered within established deadlines
  • Participates in regular management meetings, assuming leadership for task forces and/or special projects as
  • needed
  • Supervises tax associates and provides on-the-job training
  • Actively markets and cross-sells the various services provided by the Firm
  • Works to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, developing training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional service programs (i.e., CPE)
  • Assumes responsibility for smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to assure accurate, complete, and timely preparation and delivery of all clients tax returns
  • Possesses a complete knowledge of the Firms philosophy and its opinions on tax matters
  • Maintains a knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate

  • Provides overall leadership, supervision, training and performance feedback to supervisors, senior associates, and associates
  • Works closely with partners and other managers/senior managers in actively leading the practice group or office and monitors group performance goals, including chargeable hours, growth, profitability, and innovation
  • Reviews engagement workpapers, resolves any problems, and keeps the partner informed of all important developments in the engagement
  • Routinely networks with others in the industry, prospective referral sources, and/or prospective clients
  • Completes billing on time, every time
  • Records timesheet entries daily in accordance with Firm policy
  • Maintains and enhances client service, ensuring quality, efficiency, identification and delivery of value-added services and overall excellent client relations
  • Provides technical and managerial leadership
  • Meets chargeable hour budget
  • Consistently meets established deadlines, ensuring that work/review processes are complete and adequate time has been provided for partner review processes
  • Achieves personal realization of at least 85%
  • Provides timely training, coaching and performance feedback to appropriate parties
  • Completes 100% of assigned performance evaluations on time
  • Appropriately communicates with co-workers to ensure that needed information is shared, deadlines and modified deadlines are communicated, and that they have the information they need to complete their work and meet their respective deadlines
  • Completes at least 40 hours of CPE per year, with at least 12-15 hours directed towards leadership development skills
  • Complies with professional standards and ethics
  • Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by the partners
  • Seeks and implements innovative approaches/solutions, while actively stimulating innovative thinking among others
  • May be requested to research and evaluate tax research software for recommendation to partners
  • Participates in the Firms practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting required
  • Masters degree in Accounting or Finance or related field required
  • Active Certified Public Accountant licensure
  • Minimum of eight years (Manager) or ten years (Senior Manager) experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in complexity and scope of positions and engagements
  • Minimum of three years supervising and managing personnel
  • History of progressively challenging, relevant positions
  • Recent and relevant experience in a CPA firm
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience in the professional service industry
