About this position

This position is responsible for troubleshooting and problem-solving with software, hardware, and networks within the agency. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with an upbeat, positive attitude who is eager to support the agency’s mission and achieve its strategic goals.

What you’ll be doing

  • Defining, documenting, installing, and maintaining agency systems, including workstations, printers, networks, servers, the Active Directory, modems/routers, firewalls, Exchange/email, Microsoft Office, wireless access, backup/restore functions;
  • Acting as a liaison with funding sources, agency associates, vendors, and consultants, includes implementing and maintaining interfaces with other systems;
  • Defining and supporting internet protocols and services, including TCP/IP, FTP, SMTP, SSL, DNS, DHCP, RAID, and VPN;
  • Defining, installing, supporting, and monitoring required security hardware and software;
  • Designing and generating special reports based on database using Query or other report writing software;
  • Developing and updating user manuals;
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency of systems through application of technology and opportunities to improve functioning of existing applications of technology;
  • Identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems;
  • Installing and supporting anti-virus and anti-spam software;
  • Maintaining inventory of hardware and software;
  • Maintaining source code documentation;
  • Monitoring systems stability and performance;
  • Participating in the design of system changes, edits and upgrades, and either writing and installing such changes, edits, and upgrades or overseeing the work of contracted programmers;
  • Providing support to managers and other staff in the use of computers systems and reports, including assisting users to clarify and refine requests;
  • Scripting;
  • Supporting the Active Directory;
  • Supporting disaster recovery and business recovery planning and execution;
  • Supporting system design that accommodates future growth;
  • Testing of system changes, edits and upgrades;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience as a systems administrator or similar position;
  • Microsoft MCSA or MCSE certification;
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems/computer science or a related field (preferred);
  • Five or more current years of experience with Windows Desktop OS and related applications;
  • Three or more current years of experience with cloud/network applications, Azure, Office 365, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Citrix/Citrix XenAPP/MS Terminal Server;
  • Three or more current years of experience with Windows Server 2008-2016, Windows 10-11, Microsoft Office 365, SonicWall Enhanced OS, Symantec Backup Exec, Symantec Endpoint, Microsoft Access;
  • Three or more current years of experience with networking technologies, OSI model, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VPN, RAS, HTTP, FTP, WINS, LDAP, NetBIOS, DHCP, DNS, NFS, ARP, Active Directory, ISDN, leased lines, backbone carriers, and copper cabling;
  • Ability to execute and monitor backup and recovery operations;
  • Ability to perform server and work station hardware and software upgrades, installations, repairs;
  • Knowledge of virtual networks in Azure;
  • Ability to record and report IT activity to users;
  • Experience designing and generating special reports based on database using Query or other report-writing software;
  • Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues to completion;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong customer service and communication skills;
  • Ability to read, write, interpret and explain technical and/or complex information and possess skills necessary to effectively communicate with co-workers and staff;
  • Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
  • California driver’s license and reliable transportation for onsite visits to local offices.;
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds.

Job specifications
