Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

The Manager, Community Benefit Accounting and Analysis is responsible for designing and implementing community benefit financial data accounting and reporting systems, and the analysis of that data for completeness, accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations, across a national, 140‐hospital health system in service to the organization’s mission and its not-for-profit, tax-exempt status. The position is focused on conducting and using analyses of reported expenses and offsetting revenues to help hospitals and the health system achieve efficiency, accuracy, compliance and strategic value in reporting community benefit.

The position also contributes to administering Community Health department philanthropic grant programs to improve community health, including tracking and analyzing grant awards and expenditures.

This position may supervise a financial analyst position.


Essential Key Job Responsibilities

Community Benefit

  • Designs, refines and implements community benefit accounting and reporting systems with Finance (financial reporting, accounting, reimbursement, decision support) and related departments, including for financial assistance, Medicaid, other means-tested programs.

  • Analyzes hospital community benefit financial data and related program information to evaluate its completeness, accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies and procedures, and to identify and recommend quality assurance priorities and process improvements.

  • With the System Director II, Community Health/Community Benefit and the Manager Community Benefit Reporting, serves as a subject matter expert fielding questions and providing consultation on community benefit definitions and requirements, and on the organization’s community benefit reporting processes, tools and database of record.

  • Enters and reviews entry of select community benefit data by the health system’s Community Health office.

  • Participates in the design and delivery of instructional materials and tools for community benefit reporting.


Grants

  • Helps to administer community health philanthropic grant programs with a focus on accounting for and reporting on grant applications, awards and reports. Serves as a liaison to local staff, communicating grant program information and responding to questions and requests of the national office.

  • Helps to maintain grant program management software and data containing information on applicants, funding decisions, award payments, grantee reports and other program information. Reviews and analyzes data to help produce reports and communications using grant program data and grantee reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • B.A. degree in health or social sciences, finance or accounting, business administration, public policy or a related field

    Master’s degree or certificate in financial management/reporting or accounting is a plus.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilites:
  • Knowledge of tax-exempt hospital community benefit definitions and regulatory requirements
  • Experience collecting, analyzing or interpreting hospital community benefit expense information
  • Financial reporting and accounting skills in a health care setting, including use of the Lawson system
  • Intermediate to advanced skill using Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets to organize, manipulate and analyze information
  • Able to work independently, take initiative and problem-solve alone and in teams.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering clear and practical informational presentations and tools
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills with people in multiple roles within complex organizations

Pay Range
$38.81 - $56.28 /hour
