Job Summary and Qualifications

The PBX Operator PRN performs duties using a multiple-position telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls. Pages authorized persons within the hospital in a courteous manner. Answers questions for various sources in a timely manner. Maintains as accurate listing of all in-house patients by room and bed numbers, religion and physician. Records various telephone listings using a log system. Performs other duties as permitted by times and outlined accordingly.

1. Operates hospital PBX system efficiently and politely.

• Responds to all in-coming calls within 4-6 rings.
• Responds to all pages within 1-2 minutes, following established paging guidelines.
• Logs all long distance and collect calls immediately.
• Assures system is in full operation.

2. Provides requested information to families, visitors and vendors.

• Utilizing the daily census.
• Directs visitors to appropriate patient areas in a courteous and helpful manner.
• Ensures patient demographic information is not released unless pre-authorized by patient.
• All inquiries to patient condition must be forwarded to the appropriate Nurse’s Station.

3. Maintains a basic knowledge of Business Office/Patient Access operations and performs appropriate tasks.

• Daily sorts and directs all mail relative to hospital business.
• Supports Business Office/Patient Access staff as needed.
• Will print new census as needed.

4. Assumes other duties and responsibilities.

What qualifications you will need:

• High School Graduate / GED

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
