4-Rs: Lead Counselor

ROLE

Rutabaga’s Nature Arts Camp is looking for lead counselors for this summer. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about children, art, and nature and has experience as a camp counselor. We are looking for responsible, reliable, and caring counselors to lead young campers throughout the summer.

Lead camp Counselors are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing educational and recreational activities for campers (ages 4-10 years old) while ensuring each child's safety, well-being, and positive development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Planning and supervising camp activities and participating in activities to encourage campers.
● Build relationships with campers to assess individual needs and interests.
● Serve as a role model for campers by arriving on time and following the rules.
● Ensure that children are safe at all times.
● Oversee group behavior, preventing altercations and injuries through non-confrontational, non-physical, non-threatening techniques.
● Completing incident reports. Shares any issues related to child behavior with program leadership
● Attend required training.
● Leading set-up and clean-up of activities.
● Ensure camp, equipment, and supplies cleanliness.
● Supervising assistant and CITs.
● Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

● Prior teaching or lead camp counselor experience required.
● Bachelors or teaching training preferred.
● Experience or interest in teaching environmental science.
● Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and experience working with/supervising children.
● CPR certification. Training provided.
● Able to be physically active with and engage campers.
● A commitment to Diversity and Inclusion.
● Ability to be outside all day.
● Must be able to work in warm, humid, rainy, or windy outdoor conditions.
● Ability to adhere to a schedule and demonstrate flexibility with unexpected changes.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
● Committed to health requirements.

RATE & DETAILS

● Hourly $16/hr
● Full-time throughout the summer

● Hours: 8:30 to 4PM Monday - Friday
● Extended care hours: 7:30AM to 6PM, may be assigned as needed
● Camp Dates: June 12 - August 25, except July 1-5. Must be available for all dates.
● Training Dates: May 31-June 2. Partial days. Must be available for all.
● Work Location: One location, East Falls area
● Background checks are required.
