The Sterile Processing Technician I is an entry level position offering growth opportunities. With expectation of working towards a certification in Sterile Processing, and will rotate to all areas in Central Processing to learn the department, policies and procedures.

Under the general guidance and direction of the SPD Supervisor and SPD Training and Staff Development Team, the SPD Technician applies entry level skill sets to perform core Sterile Processing functions as instructed.

You will work with preceptors to develop skills necessary to perform all core functions independently. Core Sterile Processing functions include receiving, sorting and decontamination of surgical/clinic items and instrumentation; inspection and packaging of single instruments and instrument kits; identification of appropriate sterilization method and cycle selection, appropriate documentation for all sterile processes; and accurate inventory assignment relating to the case cart build process

• Documents arrival of contaminated equipment, cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment following established policy and procedure.
• Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes medical devices following manufacturer’s recommendations and established procedure.
• Retrieves all supplies and equipment as needed from patient care areas and returns to CSR for appropriate processing.
• Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment in the department according to manufacturer’s recommendations and established procedure.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and fills surgical case cart requisitions using hospital computer system (if applicable).
• Participate in rounds throughout the units to retrieve/deliver items.
• Effectively communicates, both written and verbal, with co-workers.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary to facilitate the functions of the department and hospital.

Requirements:

• This position requires a high school diploma/GED
• Desire to learn and willingness to earn certification
