JOB SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant participates in the accounting operations for the Diocese of Corpus Christi and five related non-profit corporations. This position will be responsible for providing accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Diocesan Financial Management. The Staff Accountant provides support to Fiscal leadership and other interdepartmental staff requiring exceptional service and communication skills. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including the preparation of information needed to complete the annual independent audits.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial documents, reports, and statements
  • Assist with maintaining the general ledger and Diocesan budgets
  • Assist in treasury functions including monthly reconciliations and supporting journal entries for investment accounts
  • Work with Diocesan locations regarding Deposit & Loan activities and supporting transactions
  • Assist with monitoring credit card and purchasing card accounts
  • Assist in the creation and development of procedures and applying internal controls
  • Cross-train in accounts payable and receivable
  • Participate in the construction and data consolidation of the annual budget process
  • Work with the external auditor and Fiscal department leadership to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
  • Respond to inquiries from the Chief Financial Officer, Controller and other department managers regarding reporting and information requests.
  • Support Fiscal department leadership with special projects and ad-hoc reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Calculator ten key by touch.
Experience in non-profit/fund accounting.
Experience with computerized accounting systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and
Strong organization, multitasking and prioritizing skills to meet deadlines.

  • Submit to employment required screenings including criminal background, MVR and drug screening.
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources.
  • Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures, as well as exceptional collegiality and ability to work in a team environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with duties and responsibilities in a non-profit accounting department.

HOURS:
This full-time position includes medical benefits and 403 (b) retirement benefits.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
