SR. Continuous Improvement Specialist Job at Basic American Foods

Job Summary:

Collaborate with manufacturing site leaders to drive sustainable continuous improvement. Provide coaching and training on The Basic Way concepts to multi-functional audiences. Prepare for, lead, and facilitate Rapid Improvement Events. Support strategic initiatives and help drive the transformation of BAF's culture to one of continuous improvement.

Essential Job Duties/Key Accountabilities

  • Provide strong leadership, training, and coaching to the manufacturing floor. Collaborate with plant leadership teams to set continuous improvement goals, establish project plans, measure performance, and sustain improvements. Support teams with the goal of driving increased productivity, reducing waste, and improving quality.
  • Coach the shop floor on MDI (managing for daily improvement) to drive daily problem-solving using root cause analysis tools such as A3s, 5 whys, fishbone, or other methodologies.
  • Participate in VSA (value stream analysis) and value stream steering committees to ensure metrics tied to overall company strategy are improving.
  • Gather, prepare, and analyze operating data for RIEs (rapid improvement events) that support the overall value stream metrics. Work with finance to identify cost savings associated with events.
  • 5. Assure quality, sanitation, and food safety compliance throughout all manufacturing sites, making sure that all FDA, USDA, SQF, and customer requirements related to quality and food safety are consistently achieved.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree preferably in engineering or manufacturing related field OR three to five years of Lean manufacturing experience. Food manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong background in Lean manufacturing and/or Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Strong computer skills for effective use of the Microsoft Office suite. IFS experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret various forms of data (downtime, quality, waste, cost, etc.).
  • Partnering and working with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic and motivational team player with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Regularly in a traditional office environment in a production facility. However, while performing the duties of this job, the employee may also be near moving mechanical equipment and may be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee may occasionally access high, precarious places and may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The noise level may be loud at times, requiring hearing protection. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
