The ideal candidate will exhibit a passion for educating Cuesta College's racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. We are searching for a person who will enthusiastically engage students in Spanish language courses and serve as a faculty leader for the department. Successful candidates will be innovative, collaborative, and supportive individuals who demonstrate a sensitivity to diversity and excellence in teaching.

Cuesta College provides students with a rich and dynamic learning experience that embraces differences, emphasizing collaborations and engaging students in and out of the classroom, encouraging them to realize their goals and to become global citizens and socially responsible leaders. When you join our Cuesta College team you can expect to be part of an inclusive, innovative, and equity-focused community that approaches higher education as a matter of social justice that requires broad collaboration among faculty, classified staff, administration, students, and community partners.

Cuesta College and the Languages and Communication Division value the ability to serve and honor our diverse students from a broad range of cultural heritages, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, abilities, and orientations. Therefore, it is important to us that our faculty, staff, and administrators demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds as well as sexual orientation and abilities of all constituents in the Cuesta College community. A successful candidate will be an equity-minded individual committed to collaborating with faculty, classified staff, administration, students, and community partners, and who are committed to closing equity gaps. An equity-minded individual is a person who already does or has demonstrated the desire to:

(1) Understand the importance of holding ourselves accountable as educators for closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices;
(2) Reframe inequities as a problem of practice and view the elimination of inequities as an individual and collective responsibility;
(3) Encourage positive race-consciousness and embrace human differences;
(4) Reflect on institutional and teaching practices and aim to make them more culturally responsive; and
(5) Strategically build buy-in and participation among colleagues for equity-related initiatives.

Cuesta College seeks employees who value mentorship and working in a collegial, collaborative environment, guided by a commitment to helping all students achieve their educational goals. All departments strongly encourage collaboration across disciplines to create inclusive, integrated, and interdisciplinary learning experiences. College faculty are expected to be knowledgeable about, and willing to use, different learning and teaching methods appropriate to the students they serve.

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching begins with good preparation. Faculty are expected to research appropriate textbooks, including consideration of low- and no-cost options, and select an option that best supports students' success and diversity of viewpoints. For every course, a clear syllabus must be prepared that clearly outlines an instructor's expectations of students in the course as well as the content to be covered (selection of which should adhere to the college-approved Course Outline of Record). When creating a plan for delivering content, faculty must consider a variety of methods that are both equitable and consider a range of learning styles. Finally, the development of assessment strategies that effectively and equitably assess student learning and course outcomes is vital for assigning grades that correctly reflect a student's grasp of course material. It is vital that communication with students is maintained throughout the semester through a variety of avenues synchronously and asynchronously, including intervention if needed. It is also the responsibility of an instructor to support students outside of the classroom, including guiding students to useful and applicable college support services available, as appropriate.

COLLEGE AND DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
College and/or departmental responsibilities include the following activities:

Developing and updating curriculum;
Serving on college committees and taskforces (Participatory Governance);
Researching and writing program review;
Serving on peer evaluation and hiring committees;
Scheduling and working with part-time instructors in the department;
Collaborating with the community about curriculum changes, job opportunities, or scholarship opportunities for students;
Maintaining collegial, professional and ethical conduct;
Coordinating/collaborating with the Teacher Pathways team to support student teachers, partnerships, and grants;
Achieving and maintaining Cuesta College Distance Education certification;
Regularly submitting assessment results into the college outcomes and assessments database. Selected applicants will be asked to interview for a full-time tenure track position as a Spanish instructor in the Languages and Communication Division. Assignments may be day, evening, or online classes at the San Luis Obispo Campus, North County Campus in Paso Robles, South County Center in Arroyo Grande, other sites within San Luis Obispo County, or Distance Education.
